River checkraises are the nuts 99% of the time. They are never bluffs. I learnt it the expensive way. I always used to think "he can't check the river with a hand that beats me, can he?" and the answer is almost always yes.

I love it when you get to push KK for value. Doesn't happen all that often, but it's fun when it does.
BigMurr01
I had laid down kings several hands earlier, pre-flop, to the person on his left, because they never re-raised anyone. But, this guy, I had no problems getting it all in PF with him. And, yes, it was a GREAT feeling being right.
BudBundy
In low limit PLO , you can make a small fortune just by flat calling re-raises preflop in position.

How is this topic still alive, it never dies

It's like our own little goals thread. We're not looking for advice on the hands, it's just for brags, beats and varience type hands.

Well i took out my entire roll except 50 bucks when i started work, then lost it all playing 0.25 / 0.50 when my flopped nut flush lost to a flopped straight flush

Criticize my bet amounts if you must, but the guy was paying to draw to ONE out in the deck...goddammit.
I actually donk-led the flop hoping he'd put me on a T and raise me...the BB overcall was a bonus. The turn K scared me, tbh.

He has a PREMIUM hand. I don't hate his play at all, although just calling would be better to get UTG in as well.
BigMurr01
So you would raise a re-raise with that hand, pre-flop?
bdc30
If I were playing with only $8 and could get most of my $ in preflop against two potential callers, yep.
That's what shortstacks do. Like Simo said, that's a big hand in PLO.

The profit line won't usually equal your Sklansky line. I'm not exactly sure why, but it won't. I don't think it takes non-showdown hands into account.

Comparing the Expected Total Winnings to the Sklansky line tells you pretty much how good/bad you're running.

Ran into the first 100/100 I've ever seen tonight playing 2/4. He only stuck around for 15 hands, but he either raised or reraised literally every hand preflop. I got a buy-in off of him when I flopped trip 5s, and he C/Red me with KK and then pushed the turn. Lots of fish out actually, there was a 92/46 at one of my 1/2 tables too.

Edit: Just thought to do a search for him. He's playing 5/10 now, so I'm gonna follow with a short buy.

Edit #2: He got basically all-in pre with trash against someone's aces, doubled up, and then left. Guess my night's 5/10 adventure will be short-lived.
iggymcfly
God this guy's crazy. He just got into a $500 NLHE HU SnG and bluff-raised all-in on a 4-flush board for the loss. Now, he's in a $1000 HU SnG. I wish he'd go to a cash table so I could get some more of his money.

12 outs.

52 cards in deck.

4 in his hand, 4 in your hand, 4 on the board.

That leaves 12 cards out of 40, or 3 out of every 10. 30%.

Yay for math.
BudBundy
Hmm that math doesn't look that difficult. I must really suck at math.

Thanks.
bassplayer45459
I had him pegged at 23% to win, but my math is very simple 11 outs * 2 + 2 = 24

My summer school ended last week so i am playing fully focused for the last 5 days. I am not playing many hands but i m playing quite concentrated.

My 5 days so far.

50$ PLO :

100$ PLO :

All limits :

Finally my whole month :

lol last graph looks funny.

So i played quite seriously for the last 5 days. Tomorow morning i am going to the summer house probably for the last time this summer. When i am back on monday , i will fully focus on poker and nothing else for a whole month. Hopefully i will be playing 200$ PLO with +50 buy-ins by next month.

Yeah i feel like i am doing both. I mean i am putting my money in as a favourite most of the time. But i can't deny that i won 2 or 3 %30 %70 as a %30 dog during those 5k hands. But i don't know if they should be counted as running good because they called me with the hands they should have folded. Even though i put my money in as a dog , i can't see any other way to play those hands. I ll try to find one of them right now.

Ok, I typed this out, and I think it's probably a good indication, but then I realised that those hands will obviously show a huge loss compared to sklansky and showdown, because I'm almost always folding when I have very little, giving up sklansky bucks (losing a small pot each time):

======================================================================
===

"After searching and searching for where my leak is, I have found it. I am absolutely spewing in small pots with one pair or with high card. I mean I'm THROWING money away. It's adding up to a huge amount."

======================================================================
=========

Basically I've just filtered to show all the hands I'm calling preflop and folding on the flop, or the hands where I'm giving up my blinds. I really thought I was onto something big there. Maybe I am. Can anyone else (iggy, bud, bdc) create a graph with the same parameters and double check for me?

This is where I need more knowledge of graph interpretation.

If I filter to where I either call, raise or bet the flop, I'm doing very good. If I filter to where I raise preflop I'm doing very good.
iggymcfly
Meh, I wouldn't make too much out of this. You're basically just filtering for pots you lost here as you're looking for when you have the worst hands possible (pair or high card), and by putting it between -5 and 5 net, you're filtering out even more hands that you won and less that you lost. I couldn't even find a "net won" filter but looking at "final pot size between 0 and 10" with a pair or worse, I lost 8 BB/100 (4 equity adjusted).

I tried filtering just by pot size and that was a little bit more interesting as it showed that I was winning a lot in the small pots, losing in the medium pots, and then winning a lot in the big pots, but that was pretty much expected as I generally C-bet quite a bit, lose a medium pot when I get raised and have nothing, but then when I actually have a big hand when I get raised, I tend to win a big pot since people aren't giving me credit. I could give the individual numbers, but they don't seem to be statistically significant as I'd get things like 15 BB/100 actual winnings and -8 BB/100 expected within a given group.

Also, one thing I keep wondering is are the Sklansky bucks really supposed to converge to showdown winnings? I think that as a good aggressive player, I can often steal the river when I miss, leading to no Sklansky bucks being shown in the transaction whereas when I catch a hand and just play to get called, then it comes across as a bigger "suckout" than it was when I had other cards I could have stolen on. I think there might be enough of a systematic flaw that way that my showdown winnings will always be somewhat higher than my Sklansky bucks. Are your Sklansky bucks still higher than your showdown winnings Simo or have they evened out by now?
simo_8ball
I'm not playing PLO for the moment. I've got a 250 sng bet with bdc30 and rogerwilco, so I'm trying to plough through that quickly.

I figured a week or two away from playing PLO is worthwhile. I'm enjoying playing holdem for the moment.

I think I have a leak somewhere in my PLO game, but every single filter I use, and every hand I look back at seems reasonable. I would post hands if I didn't know what to do, or if I thought it was a real mistake.

Total<<Showdown<<Sklansky for this month (only 5k hands though). That suggests I'm unnecessarily losing money in non-showdown hands on top of running pretty bad, but it's too small a sample size.

Most of the filters I look at seems to show Total=Showdown<<<Sklansky. I'm playing draws well, I'm playing made hands well, I think I'm just losing money with unnecessarily weak hands. Ill-timed bluffs and the like.

When I get back to PLO I'll just try to put in a ton of hands and see what happens.

FTR, everyone winning player or not, will have showdown winnings that are significantly higher than their total winnings. This is because your non-showdown hands include all the hands that went to showdown between other people that you folded after investing money in the pot. Just the fact that you had a hand good enough to go to showdown with is going to skew your sample up. If you can keep your non-showdown hands anywhere near breakeven, you're doing a great job.

I really feel like I'm getting it together. Thanks Bud, Simo and Iggy for being patient with me. Hopefully in a few months, I'll be ballin it at 50-100 with you Bundy. That thread about playing hands OOP has totally changed my outlook this last two days. I've played two sessions, and the numbers have come in at 24/9/3 and I made 12BB/100. I'm playing much more aggro IN position and folding a lot of hands OOP that I normally would have been playing poorly and passively. Here's my last two days, and the week as a whole. My actual profit is still higher than my equity, apparently -- and I still struggle to understand what this means -- am I playing WELL - making more out of my cards than average, or POORLY and getting lucky where I don't have the right odds??
