I would like your opinion on this hand. It was a bad beat but that is not the point. I think I should have folded but please let me know.
Situation is:
38 players left. Pay to top 40 so I am in the money
I am in 6th place with approx. 17000 in chips and I get moved to a new table. The second hand at the new table I get AKo. Blinds are 300-600. I am UTG. I raise to 2200. Table folds to the button who goes all in with 12,000. Blinds fold.
I don't know this player and have only been at the table for one hand. The only hands I am really afraid of are AA and KK. Other than that I am thinking coin flip. Since the raise is so much I am thinking he would like to see me fold so I don't put him on AA or KK. Long story short, I call and he has 7,6s. He gets a 6 and I am down to 5000.
I think at this point of the tournament it would have been a good idea to fold since I could have been dominated. My thought at the time was that it was a good time to move up and my chances were good.
Blaze away
Side note, I finnished in 33rd when I went all in with pocket queens and the same guy called with A9o

At this point, with no read, I'm usually folding. Usually when I move to a new table, I fold the first hand I get unless its AA or KK because I want to observe how the table moves. Who is playing the most pots, who is being agressive etc etc. I usually fold for a round or two until I get a feel who I can push around and who I have to avoid.
You were right to call becase you had the better hand, but its still a drawing hand and you were only a 3:2 favorite.

Thanks,
My thought was to take the risk and move up to a better position rather than sit back and wait. I think the raise was OK but you are right I should have folded. He could have had a much better hand and I still would have had about 15000 chips.

i would call in that spot unless i had an extremely great read(which i hardly do online)
ur already in the money and would still have 5k left if u lost..
and there was a small chance you could have had him dominated if he decided to make a move w/AQ or AJ or even KQ although he would have to be really aggressive/loose to do that w/u raisiing from utg..
i would have assumed i was in a coin flip situation and w/the 2200 already in and the pot and the fact u had an xtra 5k i would call..
