2/5 same game

Hero (UTG): $1000 A icon_suit_spade.gif A icon_suit_diamond.gif
Villians and approximate chip stacks from best of my memory by position.
UTG+1: ($750)Has only been around for a few orbits and has picked up on the tightness of the game and is playing pretty LAG post flop. His limping a lot of pots preflop and stabbing around alot post flop. I'm not sure, but I feel like he's a pretty good player and he's slowed me up a little bit since he sat down.
MP1: ($500)Rock
MP3: ($500?) ????
Button: ($1250) He's been the best player at the table. He's given off a sort of tight aggressive image as his raises preflop and post flop are respected but he's played a little bit more open than I think most people think he has. He calls in this position with a wide range given his odds looking to flop big or get out. I believe he reraises me with any pair higher than 10's hoping to get heads up.
BB calls: ($750) My friend. He'll call any two with so many people in at this point.

I raise to $30 all villians above call

FLOP ($180)
7 icon_suit_diamond.gif 10 icon_suit_diamond.gif 8 icon_suit_spade.gif
BB checks.

if u say 25 is standard.. why not make it 45 preflop?
Acid_Knight
Lead for $150 and hopefully get raised so that you can fold?

I did want action. I just didn't want this much action.
David_Nicoson
Check and watch the action. If there's just one bet from the LAG player, consider a check-raise. If there's a bet and a raise, one pair probably isn't the boss hand.

ive played 2-5 NL live before. Unless ur table is shorthanded full of rocks and TAGs you will get action.
Acid_Knight
Yeah, I agree with David and I would actually consider checking and seeing how things progress here. Your hand is likely in a lot of trouble here and the action may confirm that very cheaply for you.

Does this line seem weak-tight at all? This is the line I took... watched a raise and reraised and folded. Similiar circumstances occurred in another hand, I took the same line with the same result. Saw both hands and had the best hand in one case and 3rd best hand in another.

I think the fact that is seems weak-tight is irrelevant. First off, no one knows you had AA in this spot. Plus you were able to save a bet here and got free information. If this happened another time (where the whole family saw the pot and you had KK or AA), then you really got to think about increasing your preflop raises. I read this one article regarding home games (which this seems to be like) where you have to think about raising 10x-15x the bb to narrow the field.

In regards to the preflop amount, this type of family part was somewhat rare. Most hands played 3 handed post flop. $20-$30 was getting heads up or folding the table.

The fact is that it's probably the correct line to take most of the time. You are in a pot with far too many opponents, OOP, on a board where many of your opponents have either outdrawn you already or are strong favorites to do so. Add to that the fact that your hand isn't likely to improve and you have a recipe for burning up money.

The fact that you had the best hand is almost irrelevant. I mean, look at what will call you here. If you bet, you'll be called or raised by straight draws, flush draws, 2 pair, sets, and pair/draw combos. With so many opponents, you just should check and see what happens.

Part of the reason I'm questioning this play is because of this thread. (I don't post much anymore so i remember most threads I post in and thought of this thread after both hands)

Different cause of stakes and the gutter?

Different cause of stakes, the gutter, the presence of the flush draw in your hand and the fact that you're probably a much better player.

Different stakes, actual potential outs for JJ, and 2 diamonds on your flop. That being said, with the hand in that other thread, I would also check to see what develops. I think you made a good argument in that other thread that bet folding might not be the best play in the long run.

Honestly, I'm not really afraid of too much except an 8d9d and a 7?8? here. TT prolly re-raises to narrow the field. if 88 or 77 hit ... oh well. Telegraph your hand by betting $250 ---- rely on instinct for any action after that.

Folding here is often the best play. Although most of the time you DO have the best haand at this point, you're pretty much going to have to either settle for winning a small pot or dodging a bunch of draws for a big pot. If you continue this hand and you're already behind on the flop, it's going to cost a lot of chips to find out.
