This is certainly a standard spot, but I'm wondering how to play this/where you guys would improve on this play. This took place at a $100NL 6-max table, and I didn't have any reads on the guy (hadn't played with/hadn't been there long). Stacks were effectively 100 each (he may have had me slightly covered), and I don't recall all suits.

Hero, in BB dealt: 10x10x
Villian limps in the CO, SB completes

Hero Raises $2.25 to $3.25. Villian calls. SB Folds. Heads up to the flop.

FLOP (Pot: $7.50):
8s5s5x

Hero bets $4, Villian calls.

TURN (Pot: $15.50):
3x

Hero bets $8, Villian calls.

RIVER (Pot: $31.50):
Js

Hero ????

Is the standard response to pot flop and/or turn? Does any of this change, as I found out as I played with the guy if the villian is loose/passive? Any help appreciated.

It really sucks to be out of position... lol.

I think you should be betting a little more on the flop, perhaps $6, and following that up with a 2/3 pot bet, or so, on the turn.

As played, and probably how it played out in my scenario, I'd c/c the river for a reasonable bet.

bet more on flop and turn. It'll define your hand and his hand more. He could be looking up with an 8, probablywouldve raised the turn with a 5, so he could be on the spade draw. I'd check the river and call a reasonable sized bet. Hopefully you induce a bluff???

Check-calling here is weak. We may still be ahead of villain, and I don't think AJ calls a raise and goes heads up with hero, calling down to river. If villain had a strong hand (overs), you would think he'd want heavier action post flop. I think we bet $20 and see what villain does. I don't think we can call a push.

Throw in a blocker bet around 1/2 the pot.

Bet more on the turn and probably flop too

I check call and aggressive opponent and bet fold a passive one....

unknown I do what "feels right"

I know revolutionary insight.
