Hey All,

Iv'e been playing online NLHE for awhile now and have recently started going to the local poker room to play cards with friends. The cash game tables are only limit HE which is quite new to me. The blinds are $1/2, standard stuff. Now the way I play NLHE is an obvious one, raise preflop 3-4x BB, exploit position, use raises and re-raises after the flop to see where I am if I sense weakness etc etc. The way I play is 100% useless ive come to realise when playing Limit holdem at this place. The caliber of player is very low, you could call the population of this place 80% donkey which means theres a good opportunity to make money.

The problem is no one will ever respect a raise or re-raise at this table, people play ANYTHING. I do my best to have a tight image and only play good hands but everyone still calls my raises or my re-raises. One hand the betting was capped pre-flop and the winning hand rivered a straight, he went in with 5-3 off suit...... To try to counter this style of play by adopting a strategy to see flops as cheaply as possible now (unless I have AA - KK - QQ) because the standard raise in position with say AK or 99 doesn't get anyone out so im always very scared when I miss the flop and 9 players are still in the pot, even if ive made top pair. If I make something ill obviously bet it aggressively and try to make as much money possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions what the correct way to play this table would be ? Would you do anything differently ? Again I am new to LIMIT so the bluffing side of things I guess wont work at all here?

Yeah, like that's definitely the "bible" of these small stakes loose passive games.

Also, Theory of Poker by David Sklansky might be good for you too, if you are worried about them "respecting your raises". It, along with SSHE, should help explain why it's not exactly bad that they call everything down, in fact, their loose calls are what make it extraordinarily profitable.

I'm sorta a big deal in this forum.

Remember that the money comes from bad players and goes to good ones (or the house) over the long run.
So, when you say something to the effect "I can't beat players that play 35 to the river", well of course you can in the long run. And you will. Otherwise, why in the world would you not adopt the same strategy? See?

ps: oh and don't be like the dumb dumb dummy at the table on PokerStars that said "How do you beat a guy that plays K4" I said, "Maybe you can start by not 3-betting with just top pair on the river" The villain limped with K4s and hit two pair on the flop HU vs our Hero. Hero c/c flop and c/r turn..which villain flat called. Villain then proceeds to raise and cap the river, much to Hero surprise who has only TP now. So, it is a 7 card game

Well I have a lot of experience in these small stakes live donkfests. SSHE is definatly the place to start.

Some other tips: You can usually limp Ax suited or any pocket pair, they are both very profitable in these games. Play your flush draws hard, don't slow play anything because 1). No one ever believes you flopped something (especially trips) 2.) A lot of players will see the turn with anything. Get their money while it is there.

Definaty read SSHE, play some hands and then go over SSHE again.

Remember, your Aces or Kings will win a lot less, but the pots they do win will be so much bigger than they have any right to be. In the long run, the money you make when your hands hold up far outweights the money you lose when your hand gets rivered. Think long term.
