Im going to be checking out the borgata's WSOP satellite tourny in AC this weekend. on saturday it is a 220+30 act one satellite, 1 in 5 moves on to sunday the 1000+100 satellite in which 1 in 15 gets a 15k WSOP main event package.

Ive never played a multi staged satellite like this it looks hard but also looks like it might be easy. I play a lot of cheap buy in live tournys, like 50-100$ buy ins, and i consistantly make the final table if not final 2-3 tables almost every time. So i feel like getting top 20% out of probably 200-400ish players shouldnt be too hard. Ive just never played where the top prize is all the same so theres going to be some seriously weird play when were starting to get to the 20% bubble which is essentially the end.

Im wondering if anyone has experience with this and has some advice on making it through the act 1 round. I am planning on my usual tight-aggressive play in the early rounds, not getting tied up in big pots unless its a serious hand, trying to clean up small pots here and there for a safe steady build up. im thinking though because once we get to the top 20% it just ends i should maybe play a little more aggressive early on and then tighten up once i get a decent lead on my stack and just kind of wait it out

btw what do you think of the 1 in 15 odds on the 2nd day satellite, unless a lot more people then i think will be showing up for the 1100 buy in im thinking prob only final table if not a few more will be advancing

so no advice? anyone ever play a tourny similar to this?

Meh, it's tough to give advice on specific tournies.

Since it's a flat payout type thing, you need to keep track of your stack compared to avg stack, and what the avg stack will be at the bubble, and know what you need to get to in order to make it.

You'll definitely need to know how to play a satellite bubble given you stack as well. Folding to cash is not bad if you've got enough chips, etc.

The Borgata attracts a lot of bad players because it is the nicest casino in AC. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there were far more than 400 players in Act I. Two weeks ago they had a $1,000 entry tournament and they guaranteed $250,000 (250 entries). The tourney ended up getting almost 750 entries. My guess is that the tournament is going to be huge and therefore have more donks, so it should probably be a good value.

The 1 in 15 thing is a little ridiculous IMO. They don't really need to give you $5,000 in cash to make the trip out there. I'd rather get a $12,000 package and have more seats available.

Just know the situation and play accordingly.
If there are 10 people left and 9 move on, and you are in 2nd holding AA and the chipleader moves all in, fold.

thanks for the help guys. Pretty much confirmed my original thoughts on things its good to know you agree though.

Looking at the borgatas tournament schedule i think i might be actually waiting till june 21st when they have their borgata summer open satellite. Its essentially the same 250$ buy in for act 1, 20% progress, except the 2nd day the 1100 buy in, 20% also progress instead of 1 in 15 which is MUCH better odds. Of course its only a 5k prize which is the buy in for the summer open main event instead of 15k for the wsop but i think i might be better off anyway in the case that i actually win the package, i would have a better chance in the smaller field at the borgata. but either way ill let you guys know what happens
