Concerning the last hand.....The pot is $2.55. It's $.46 to you with two players to act behind you. The only way you scoop here is if the turn and river come 3(not diamonds), then A,2, or 5(not diamonds). That gives you 7 outs {3 , 3 , 3 , A , A , 2 , 2 } on the turn followed by 6 outs on the river which you have to hit consecutively. So that gives us a 2.1% chance to scoop (7/45*6/44 = 2.1%). So converting to odds gives us 46.6:1 [(100%-2.1%)/2.1% = 46.6] against scooping. Since we're only getting pot odds of 4.5:1 I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say we're in bad shape here.

Just to play devil's advocate.....Yes we've got the current nuts and redraws to a higher straight, but I don't mind a check/call or 1/2 pot bet on the flop. check/call the flop is very much weak/passive, however it's also the least variance method. I like a smaller flop bet for two reasons: 1) It's possible I'm behind here or being freerolled. If I get played back at I can reevaluate. 2) A 1/2 pot flop bet that gets called builds the pot enough to make a turn pot-sized have some teeth to it (as opposed to everyone checking the flop) without giving away the farm those times the flush card h

Potting this preflop is intended to get out hands like 24xx or other crummy lows. This hand plays better against fewer opponents (less random low draws and misc. flush draws to worry about). That's why this is a must raise EP.

preflop call is okay here. Raising UTG will drive off too many players when you have a hand that plays very well multiway. I call preflop in EP because I want callers with this hand. Get all the chips in as fast as you can on this flop.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the villian is capable of smooth calling a big hand, but that would have been an abrupt change of gears for him at the time. Even though it was unlikely, I ended up giving him credit for a set or a suited Q because it looked like at least one queen was folded by P1 or P2. If P3 knows this, and he has a Q, he'd have a hard time putting me on a Q as well, and he'd have to at least consider that I had a set. I don't think he pushes then.
