Getting the chance to raise to the EV level so far is the best method. It tends to give you a chance to get freebie looks. The really good part is you'll always have position being to the right. If your oppent checks & you bet on a face card on the table, unless he/she hits they will fold. So 40% (?? I forget the math) you'll have an edge. And if you hit your cards (especially 2 pairs), in NL poker it should be able to take in a huge pot! So the pluses to this strategy: 1. Position (you have to have everyone fold to you and hopefully you make a good read to get position, or you must si

Even better is a 10 handed game, where you reraise to the EV ($9) on an isolation play. It sets you up to bluff, and also if you hit, it becomes very profitable. Because only a few of us even have what you'd remotely deem a tight image, getting value in your hand lets you semi-bluff cheaply (ie getting people to fold a decent pot with a undervalue bet)--and if I do get caught I always show my cards-- I think for this type of game I want my tight image to change to a looser maniac (WTF are you playing type player) to induce some all-in callers when I do have the nuts.Yes I think it's high ris

I'm throwing out some poker theory and want some feedback. Ok we play NL Hold'em poker ring games at $40 buy in with $1 antes / no blinds.Theory - winning by playing any two cards: We've got some crazy aggressive players. In general they'll play anything.. so would it be worth it to play any 2 cards against a crazy player on an 1-1 showdown? Any two undercards vs. two overcards are roughly 2.33 against (30% chance of winning). In an 8 player game the ante totals $8. If you're sitting right of crazy player and he bets $6 and everyone folds to you, you should play. You need to get 8X2.33 =

Yeah it seems like I've been taking alot of "breaks" lately! I come back, feel recharged and proceed to play well for a short period of time. I guess what kills me is watching all the bad poker going on, and not being able to do anything about it! I'm beggining to feel and sound like Phil Helmuth or something . I think I'm reading and watching too many of his books and DVDs! Maybe I'll go back to playing "Go Fish" for some cash. LOL. Or good ol "BIG 2".Thanks all.

Well I think my Poker NL Tourney game is kinda getting like my golf game.. It ain't getting any better, and in fact maybe going backwards. I've managed to play in several tourneys lately and have just finished out of the money. e.g. 12th out of 40 at the Luxor $40 shootout, 40th out of 220+ at the Orleans $75 buy in, 15th of 75 at the Alladin ($50), and last week 19th out of 160 + at River Rock in Vancouver ($100).I know the shootout ones are a bit of a crap shoot. But overall I think I'm now making bad reads, and have been caught myself trying to make moves. It's starting to get frustratin
