Wow, I am surprised at the comments so far. I was simply posting a comment regarding an old timer I ran into, and how I enjoyed his stories. Whether he is a legend or a "legend" in his own mind it doesnt matter. I posted my positive experience and was curious if any else had any funny stories to tell. I didnt ask for advice, I didnt represent anything other than a casual interaction.

Comment or dont, but it serves no purpose to negative post. Haters gonna hate, I guess. Have a good weekend...

I never told anybody this but about 8-9 months ago, I'm at the Taj and its late and I see Tommy Vinas walk in. He says 300/600 and the whole place stops. Tommy Vinas walks in everyone puts an eye on him. I mean after awhile there wasn't a craps game goin because all of the high rollers are over there watching him. You know some of them are sitting there, their givin away their money to this guy to say "oh I played with a world champion." And you know what I did... I sat down. Usually you need 50-60 grand to sit in that game, I had 6, I had to know.

Played tight for an hour, I folded mostly then I made a score. You would probably think wired Aces or Kings... no, rags. I had nothin.

He raised, I just decided you know... I don't care about the money I'm just going to play the guy. I'm just goin to outplay the guy this hand. I re-raised. And he just comes right back over the top of me trying to bully me like I'm some f*****g tourist. I hesitate for like 2 seconds. I'll re-raise, and he makes a move towards his chips and he looks at me, and then he looks at his cards, and then he looks at me again and he mucked. I took it down.

He says "did you have it?" I say, "I'm sorry Tom, I don't remember." I got up and I walked to the cashier. I sat with the best in the world, and I WON.

#3588188 Thank You, Daniel

Thank you Daniel and the rest of the people at FCP for the 2012 WSOP contest in which I won an Ipad. I was pleasantly surpised receiving it in the mail today after basically giving up hope due to how long it was taking. But you guys came through and I appreciate it. Thinking back to the contest, I had originally planned to put some time researching all the players I was unfamiliar with but never did and basically just took about 10 min to fill out my bracket at the last minute. I didn't know about half the players I picked! But I got lucky and sometimes that's all it takes to win! Again thank you for the prize and I look forward to this years contest.

All the best,
Brian

Just looking out for you sir.
WHOAAAA sick sample size to go off of!

I mean, you do realize the variance in tourneys, right?

I'd judge his trust in his ability over a...what...30 plo tourney sample? In which case, 4/30 still is a respectable number, not far off a cash rate he should likely be experiencing.

#3557716 This Really Happened?

Posted answer20 on 05 July 2012 - 08:57 AM

We go from people handing money over with 'no use' for it to people beating others up without taking anything? What defines a mugging these days? And no police report? Could be any small number of things, eh? If it was poker related, then I am glad that pocket cameras weren't used for the entire tournament cuz there may have been quite a bit of 'friendly' non-muggings going on as people were trying to play their 'game' and the cards didn't pan out for them. Only one person gets their money in good normally ... the rest is up to speculation as to whether or not it was the right play or read for the situation. And even then you can only hope that another human is thinking the way you want them to think. Time for the main event ... I willl let you stake me and keep 85% of the winnings after the buy-in is subtracted out ... any takers?
