I don't remember the exact details, but I got a one-outer in a 2/4 7 card stud hand to make quad Q's to beat my opponent's 6th street K's full. There was a third hanger-on in the pot who had made a flush or straight.Boards were something like[Ac-Qc] 3s-Qs-Qh-4c [Qd][Kh-Kc] 8h-9c-Kd-8c [Ah]and some random flush or straightI was the bringin and the poor guy got cute on 3rd and let me in for free. I think I led out on 4th and got raised, led out on 5th and we capped it 3-way, I check-called on 6th, and caught perfect and capped it on 7th.

I was wondering just the same thing... I've also hit 2 royal flushes in the past year (once in live HE, once in online 7 stud). Guess I'm just a luckbox (I think I already knew that though) .

I'm all for making plugs for stud... but come on. Skill dominates in pretty much any form of poker. Stud isn't exactly a low-variance game. His mistake isn't playing NL hold 'em... it's that he is playing the game without being ready to deal with its inherent variance. The same (or at least a similar) mistake can be made in stud.

I don't remember all the specifics of that hand... but I do remember the commentators (who apparently don't know much about stud) overstating a little how good the play was. Even iIn a full-ring game, it'd be correct to play with a pair of 2's and an overcard kicker against a probable pair, and to be prepared to go to the river unless you know your opponent has 2-pair early. In a 3-handed situation, it's even better. At some point, I think Brown checked the hand, and I think Forrest took it down without a showdown. Congrats on the tourney success. I'm really encouraged to see multiple posts about seven card stud today. I play mostly for fun (but I like paying my rent with cards, too)... and for me, stud is a lot more fun than hold 'em.I've had a few good experiences in stud MTT's. I mostly play small stakes stud. I qualified for a seat in the Stars WCOOP stud event by winning the 500 FPP tourney last weekend. I'm not a fan of the rule to always slowplay your rolled trips. (but then, I'm not a fan of a lot of universal rules in 7 stud). I play on PokerStars, usually 1/2, but 2/4 or 3/6 when those games are particularly good. PokerStars has a .10 ante and .50 bringin for the 1/2 game, and a similar structure for 2/4.When I'm properly bankrolled for 3/6, I'll probably make the switch to Party. The competition on PokerStars is generally tougher, but I prefer playing the tighter structure to being forced to mix it up with marginal hands all the time.
