If he even takes it half serious I think he'll see the dividends. He'll be more clued in with less need for "drop ins" by either you or him. It'll be an interesting thing seeing it implemented from the "bottom up."

I've done daily journal entries and should get back in the habit. We also do "4x4" goal setting. Essentially quarterly worksheets which highlight major accomplishments of mine from the previous quarter, my goals for the upcoming quarter, as well as any obstacles I might foresee and how my manager might be able to facilitate said goals. About half the time I'm not really too enthused for 4x4 time but it does help come merit increase or bonus time. I also do weekly 1on1s with manager using the manager tools format and I take notes during that so it's decent reference material as well.

I don't have a problem with sleeping throughout the night. I have had disruptions basically the entire time I've had the Fitbit—travel, drinking, drinking while traveling. But I'm pretty sure the long term average is going to be like 6.5 hours, which is decidedly not sufficient.

One of my roommates from college, I remember him trying to convince me he could do four hours consistently without issue. He was a film major, and one of my other friends, also a film major, said my roommate was notorious for passing out during screenings. Sleep deficits always manifest somewhere, I think.

I've read that Gordon Ramsay sleeps like four hours a night. I think that's probably pretty standard for the michelin caliber chefs. Of course, the cocaine helps.

Well, I don't want to advocate watching Americans, because I think it's super overrated and stuck in the mud now, but trust me, it was a great point.
