  1. You had bad luck...period. If you can get people to call your "all in" when you have aces, that is beautiful. I assume you were expecting someone to call or you would have bet a little less. When you are playing against the same people for a while, you have to disguise your hands a little bit. You wont want them to know that each time you come that strong that you have AA. You want to have callers...but not so many that you get sucked out. You just want high pocket pairs to come with you because they will only have 2 outs unless something freakish happens like them making a freak straight arou
  2. Thanks for your responses. When he raised it up to $30 before the flop, it was obvious he had AA, KK or QQ. Since I had and A and a K in my hand, I figured it was unlikely he had Aces or Kings. So I assumed he had Queens and figured it was worth seeing a flop. In retrospect, I should have just let the hand go. AK is good but when you are looking at that kind of raise in a 1,2 no limit game, I think it is better laying down the hand and conceding your $10 than potentially losing a pile of $$$. Anyway, when a King came on the flop and he checked it to me, I thought he indeed had QQ and was scar
  3. I think "He" played the hand too agressively. If I were him, I would have just called your $12 raise. On the other hand, you were right to ditch the hand. With that raise, I would have assumed he had pocket jacks. Usually in that situation, I think thats what you would be looking at. Larry
  4. This is a hand I played in Atlantic City last week. I am starting to get a better feel for what my opponents have and this is a hand I learned from. In the future, when the same scenario presents itself, I will know what I am looking at.I was playing in a 1,2 no limit game and had a few hundred in chips. I was under the gun and looked down to see As,Kd. I raise the pot to $10. Two people call and the big blind raises to $30.00. I call. the other two players fold. Now there are $83.00 in the pot. Flop comes K,9,3 rainbow. BB checks and I bet 30.00. BB immediately raises to $60. I call. Turn com
  5. Phil Ivey is Phil Ivey and I am just an amatuer but I think it depends on whatever you are comfortable with. I wore sunglasses for the first time last week in Atlantic City and I feel they helped me. A few times when people bluffed and I looked at them for a little while, I noticed them becoming uncomfortable. It bothered them that they couldn't see my eyes and they looked at me and looked away. On the other hand, when they had the cards, they just looked comfortably straight into my sunglasses. They might have done the same thing had I not had the sunglasses on, I don't know. However, I feel
  6. Yes, I assumed he had hit a set of Jacks when he went all in but I couldn't let him bully me out of the pot. As I stated, I was new at the table and it was obvious to everyone I had either aces or Kings. Me laying the hand down there would have been an open invitation for everyone to push me around on subsequent hands. I called hoping he didn't have the jacks but assuming he did. Well, he did and I had to buy another $200 in chips. Thanks for your resopnses Big Larry
  7. I just finished the book. I enjoyed it. I felt I could relate to mcmanus and all his personal flaws. As he was moving along in the tournament, I felt I was playing along with him. I especially liked his illustrations of TJ and Fergusun. They seemed so lifelike. Especiallty TJ. Good book. Big Larry
  8. Hello everyone. I began playing live 1,2 no-limit games about a month ago in Atlantic City and am happy to say that I have made money despite being fairly new to the game. I would like to share a hand with you where I had aces cracked last week to hear your opinions on how I played them. This is how the hand played out:I had just sat down at the table and bought in fo $200 in a 1,2 no limit game. My first 5 or 6 hands were rags and I didn't play them. Then while on the button, I looked down to see pocket aces. I have tried to get cute with them before but after getting sucked out on straight
