Doesn't David have better than a gut shot? It is no strong wrap, but both a K and an 8 give him the nut straight (K gives him A high straight and 8 gives him Q high straight) so shouldn't that be an open ended straight draw? I mean obviously the 8 isn't as great a card as the K since it puts the low draw on the board and every non-K card on the river will be potentially realistically bad, but still he's got more than just a gut shot, pair, and back door flush.

Well but 0 EV things that increase varience aren't really 0 EV for the non-professional players [which may be why they are only played in the big game]. That is, in addition to increasing your risk of ruin, they increase the swings of your sessions, and for non-pros that turns them in to bad things with the tax man.

This is a no brainer push in the SNG format at the point you describe, the odds of the sb having a better hand then you are low. And if he lets you double up through him, that is good for you.The only place I'd fold this is if there were 4 players left and you had an orbit+ more than the short stack, who was going to be all-in for the BB. Then I might fold as long as you had enough to out last the BB even if they double up. But that is only because it is such a gap between 4th and 3rd and a win still doesn't put you competitive with the 2 big stacks.

how did you decide on your forum handle?

Poker is a zero sum game, but ZeroSum was taken at most sites. Bobby Newmark's handle is Count Zero in the Gibson book by the same name.Shake well and SumZero results. -
I get mad when players at the table tap the aquarium. But I'm always amused when people berate me when I suck out on them after they have completely failed to protect their hand. Or say things like "god you play such crap" after I win a huge pot with 93o neglecting the fact it was my unraised big blind that caught the trip 3's on the flop.

One thing to note, just like NL ring games need a much bigger bankroll than limit ring games, MTT need way bigger bankroll than the SNG. In a SNG, if you are a winning player, you'll be ITM 35% of the time and the worst ITM position is nearly double the buyin. In a lot of the MTT tournaments 15% or less of the players will be ITM. Further many of these ITM spots pay less than 3rd in a SNG. It is all about the top few places in the MTT and these happen it a very slow rate, and as a result an unlucky run of no top-5 places can last a very, very, very long time and take a lot of your money.

Hi all, first time poster, and this seemed like a fun thread to get involved in. The fact is that on a 50/50 fair bet on a coin flip with a finite bankroll for you and an infinite bankroll (for the person you are betting against) and infinite number of flips you will go bust. It is a certainty. Alcatraz wanted a proof that he was wrong, but since he was right, I'll offer the proof below:Here is a link that may be of interest to people http://mathworld.wolfram.com/GamblersRuin.html.Basically, this is a random walk problem (follow the links there for more info) and it simplifies that if you a
