+1. If I was first to act, I would check. If I've got position, I'm gonna bet, like I do every time. They're either gonna have something and you're gonna get paid a lot, or they won't, and you won't. I guess you can just sit around waiting for one of them to take a little stab, but that's weak poker.

Well played, I do exactly the same thing. When you see his set of 3's, sigh and think of all the money you saved. Laugh internally at the donk that didn't raise you and get paid off.

Tptk, On The Defence...
bstark94 replied to Citizen Erased's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
Without reads, I call the turn. Call the river. I probably don't raise the flop either. I like pot-control with TPTK, that way you're decisions are easier. -
Turned Into Something? 1/2 Nl

+1 - If I check raise, I'm repping the nuts, for the rest of the hand. -
Get out fast. I mean real fast, and be glad you didn't raise. I hate AQ on a board like this. Especially with no redraws.

3-5 Live Hand Between Two Big Stacks
bstark94 replied to pocket_change's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
I actually like a C/R with this flop with this many players. You've got to assume someone's gonna stab. If you lead out, lead out for more, make it look like you're C-betting AK. It'll look like a standard c-bet and you're more likely to get raised that way. Also, get the "SEAT CHANGE BUTTON", you don't want the other big stack on your left acting after you, you really wanna pick your spots to battle this guy, since he's the only one at the table that can hurt your stack. -
I would bet the flop if it was checked to me, but I'm pretty aggressive. As played, make it ~200 on the turn, pray for someone to shove over you.

I feel like your Huckleberry here has a set of aces. He insta-checked to keep you around, now he's gonna double you up. NH.

1/2 Nl Live, Anybody Play This Differently?
bstark94 replied to bstark94's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
Thought this was a strategy forum? Seeing if you guys think I played this properly, or what you would have done differently.BTW- The idiot villain had K-10 offsuit, no clubs, and of course spikes a 9 on the river -
Stacks -Hero ~230Villain ~ 225, is just a terrible player. LAP, with tells.Straddle pot. Hero is Button. Villian is CO. With three limpers in the pot already, I look down at A Heart Q Club I raise to 18. UTG calls, Villain calls.Flop: Q Diamond J Club 7 ClubUTG checks. Villain bets $15. Hero raises to $65. UTG folds, Villain takes a couple minutes and makes the call.Turn: 5 ClubVillain doesn't look happy to see the club, and checks. Hero pushes all in for ~140. Villain goes in the tank forever, then calls. Will post results later. Do you think this is pretty standard? I read the Villain for a K

Huge Draw Against A Laggy
bstark94 replied to CBass1724's topic in No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games
Fold PF. As played, pretty standard. -
You raise the flop, you're gonna find out that you're outkicked, IMO. The turn gives you 2-pair and now you've got his AQ beat. In position here, I just call him all the way down.
-
Quoted for truth. You are absolutely willing to play for stacks on this flop, but that being said, you're also happy to take it down right now, b/c any hand that can call you has you beat.

When I read "GIN" in the title of the thread, I was expecting that you made the low end of a straight flush, or some other monster. I'm not sure bottom trips qualifies as gin, but I think in this hand, it's good enough. I think your boy may have AK or AA right here, and he's gonna be headed to the teller after this one.

I folded, this isn't the kind of guy that bluffs small. His bluffs are usually huge overbets, this one reeked of trying to get paid. Normally I would check-call here, but as I play with the same people quite a bit (only local cardroom), I've been trying to mix up my play a little. I think if I check here, he probably still bets more than $50, so I think I got away pretty cheap.Do you guys like the use of blocking bets? Or much prefer a check-call? I think against better players the blocking bet is probably more effective, and I'm not sure this guy qualifies.
