#3625687 Flintsword: Qualifies For Another Wpt

Posted flintsword on 25 October 2013 - 04:40 PM

While the God of Poker (our fearless leader DN ...) wins the WSOP Europe High Roller & get a (totally deserved) 2nd POY for the WSOP, the rest of us poker foot soldiers have to do the best we can.

Last Sunday I won a seat in the WPT Prague in December :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: by besting 63 players to grab one of three $6,100 seats, so I am going.

After my cash in the WPT Paris 2011 I pulled off another qualification to the WPT Prague 2011 where I got handed my head by any number of hyper-aggressive eastern European players, scoring 50% in the tournament.

I get to go back to that great city and try again :icon_biggrin: ... looking forward to it with a year of studying my game.

2012 was a bit of a desert of poker for me. 2013 has been kinder and when I heard that Sam Trickett was going to play in the 400 pound Old Trafford poker tournament in Manchester this August I decided to try and qualify. I did and flew out to play, lucking out to get Sam Trickett at my table for all of day 1. Three of the original players were still sitting at the end of Day 1 and my carcass was one of them. I learned a lot at that tournament just watching the better players make moves on players. It was fun, the food in Manchester was insanely bad, and the poker was superb. I finished 25th in a field of 168 players.

Amateurs take these kind of qualifications seriously but after watching DN on live feed de-bone the final table of top poker players in the WSOP Europe High Roller to win another bracelet ... my news of qualifying for another WPT is pretty small beer :icon_neutral:.

So be it :icon_exclaim: ... It is a big deal to a poker serf like me and since the poker posts here at fullcontactpoker helped me become a better player, I`ll post commentary here and with a little skill plus a lot of luck: Cash, Final Table, or Win ... preferable all three :icon_biggrin:.

Playing at the WPT level has been an amazing experience every time I get there. More news as it develops ;)

#3635461 It Has Been A Long Time

Posted Potomophobia on 15 December 2013 - 05:25 PM

Since I've been able to legally play online poker in the USA.

I've been on a hiatus from poker. But since the politicians in NJ have decided to allow me to lose $10 in a SNG from home again, I've decided to scrape off the rust from my weak game and try again. Just another fish in the bowl.

It feels good to be back to the forum.

Happy Holidays to all!

why play on the OLG site when rake is cheaper on PokerStars, and they will always spread better games.

#3589725 Tommy Vinas

Posted king_tanner on 05 April 2013 - 08:55 PM

I never told anybody this but about 8-9 months ago, I'm at the Taj and its late and I see Tommy Vinas walk in. He says 300/600 and the whole place stops. Tommy Vinas walks in everyone puts an eye on him. I mean after awhile there wasn't a craps game goin because all of the high rollers are over there watching him. You know some of them are sitting there, their givin away their money to this guy to say "oh I played with a world champion." And you know what I did... I sat down. Usually you need 50-60 grand to sit in that game, I had 6, I had to know.

Played tight for an hour, I folded mostly then I made a score. You would probably think wired Aces or Kings... no, rags. I had nothin.

He raised, I just decided you know... I don't care about the money I'm just going to play the guy. I'm just goin to outplay the guy this hand. I re-raised. And he just comes right back over the top of me trying to bully me like I'm some f*****g tourist. I hesitate for like 2 seconds. I'll re-raise, and he makes a move towards his chips and he looks at me, and then he looks at his cards, and then he looks at me again and he mucked. I took it down.

He says "did you have it?" I say, "I'm sorry Tom, I don't remember." I got up and I walked to the cashier. I sat with the best in the world, and I WON.

#3588188 Thank You, Daniel

Posted One Lucky Guy on 27 March 2013 - 11:26 PM

Thank you Daniel and the rest of the people at FCP for the 2012 WSOP contest in which I won an Ipad. I was pleasantly surpised receiving it in the mail today after basically giving up hope due to how long it was taking. But you guys came through and I appreciate it. Thinking back to the contest, I had originally planned to put some time researching all the players I was unfamiliar with but never did and basically just took about 10 min to fill out my bracket at the last minute. I didn't know about half the players I picked! But I got lucky and sometimes that's all it takes to win! Again thank you for the prize and I look forward to this years contest.

All the best,
Brian

#3567903 Nominated For Poker Award

Posted Jam-Fly on 07 October 2012 - 04:46 PM

So FCP, time for some old fashioned spam/plug/begging. I've been nominated in the 'Break Out Year' category for the Irish Poker Awards. It's a simple vote online system that's used so I'd appreciate support from FCP. The link for voting is http://www.theirishpokerawards.com/ . I'm Jamie Flynn btw, and the category is 'Break Out Year'. Thanks for any votes!

(I haven't asked for permission, but I assume I am ok to post this. If not apologies and feel free to delete)

#3555616 What To Do In This Kind Of Situation?

Posted HighwayStar on 11 June 2012 - 10:32 AM

Luck manifests itself over the long term. Some random 2 outer, even ten 2 outers in a row means jackshit in the long term and is really nothing to worry OR complain about. If your bankroll can't handle that, you don't have a big enough bankroll. Over the timespan of a year (say 1 million hands or 50000 sngs), the difference between two equally skilled players $ winnings can be a hell of a lot, that is the element of luck, and it can be pretty large depending on the game played.Where luck plays more of a factor over a small sample of hands is tournaments. In tournaments winning or losing 4 flips deep in a big tournaments could be the difference between a breakeven year and a $200k year, which is why they are damned silly.I do think anyone can win at poker, but very few will ever take the necessary steps to do so. It is probably mostly a result of the environment/mindset they play in. Perhaps this is the same as saying that not everyone can win. I think someone who seeks out a poker forum and asks questions is on the right track to success. 95% of people never will, maybe if they were forced to they would have a hope. It is also by no means the only thing someone needs to do to win.
