OK, the long-advertised World Poker Classic tournament at the Plaza in downtown Vegas should be under way now. Anybody know if it is? Any information about it? Are they running satellites to the daily events? Are they getting any attention at all?

The Plaza in downtown Las Vegas has been advertising a tournament, World Poker Classic, starting in late April. Anybody have any idea if it's generating any buzz among players? Anybody planning on playing?

Enjoyed your post. I felt your pain and, later, satisfaction, a few weeks ago when I went out 9th out of 62 when they paid 8 at Binion's on a Friday night ($200 entry total including rebuy). The bubble sucks, like a kick in the gut, very frustrating. But when I figured I'd played pretty well (for me) to get that close, and I could learn from what mistakes I made, it was a good experience overall.Bellagio also runs single-table sats for Friday's $1,000 tourney, $240 buy-in, top 2 play the tourney.

I was just out there and enjoyed the tourneys downtown at Plaza and Binion's. Plaza runs four times a day, noon, 4 p.m., 8 p.m. and midnight for a $50 (plus $10) buy-in with one $50 rebuy. Binion's runs at 2 p.m., 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., the 2 a.m./p.m. events are $60 (plus $10) with one $40 rebuy and the 8 p.m. is $125 (plus $25) with one $50 rebuy. Can't beat Binion's for tradition and atmosphere, and the competition was pretty good. Susie Issacs played in one of the 2 p.m. tourneys when I was there. They get good crowds, too. Plaza was fun, anywhere from 30 to 60 people, and one night they b

I received e-mail yesterday informing me that the WPPA Memorial Championship of Poker scheduled for Jan. 29 at the Orleans has been cancelled. Apparently the TV coverage fell through. Maybe the program they've been showing on Game Show Network hasn't been drawing many viewers, and GSN opted out. Or maybe they never opted in for the Jan. 29 event and the organizers were looking for other coverage. Who knows. Anyway, just passing along the info.

I am going to be in Las Vegas at the same time The Orleans is hosting the WPPA Memorial Championship of Poker. Even the $500 sats to the $5,000 tourney on 1/29 is a little over my head for tourney entries, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if they run satellites to the $500 qualifier sats. Also, I'd be interested in information in general about WPPA tourneys. Well run? Tough field? Worthwhile experience? As long as I'm asking questions, does anyone know if the Bellagio runs satellites to its weekly $1,000 NL tourney on Friday?

There are some but they're in the northern part of the state.Leelanau Sands Casino near Traverse City has a 3-day series of tourneys next weekend, and a larger one in February ($50,000 prize pool, I think). The website is www.casino2win.com, but it doesn't have a lot of detail on the tourneys. Also, the Kewadin casino in St. Ignace, just across the bridge in the Upper Peninsula, has tournaments, a weekly NL tourney on Wednesdays will start soon, try kewadin.com.
