#3767619 Recreation Hockey League

Posted serge on 26 March 2018 - 08:26 AM

There are some moments in your sons life that they will never forget and will grow from.

This weekend Adrianís team was playing for the Northern California championships. In the final game they played against a San Jose team that they had been battling all year. In one of the most epic games in California Peewee history ( mentioned by several of the organizers) they lost 3-2 in the 4th overtime. One of the most exciting games you can ever watch.

After the 3rd OT they even cut/flooded the ice as the kids went in the locker room. Something they never experienced as that doesnít happen in Peewee. I can honestly say Adrian had one of his greatest games ever as he made 46 saves. Some dramatic ones in the overtimeís. 2 minutes before the goal he made a glove save that was just insane and had the whole building buzzing. The winning goal was a clear breakaway that he just got beat by a great shot.

In the end they fell one goal short, it was definitely a tough loss but they played their hearts out. The positive is they qualified for the State Championship in 2 weeks which is a huge accomplishment.

Itís hard to see the disappointment in the kids face after they played such an epic game, but after the initial disappointment wore off they were proud of what they accomplished and itís a game they will never forget and will be remembered in the history of these championships for a long time.

They still have a chance to be State champions in 2 weeks.

This post is mostly for myself as I look back on this thread and see the progression of my kids hockey careers..

We just got back from a tournament in Los Angeles..This has been a pretty epic year for Adrian's team. There is one more regular season game left and the team is undefeated and have clinched first place in their division. Also this was the third tournament we have gone to and we have managed to win all 3 tournaments.

This tourney was fun.. They did some cool things like player interviews, on ice champagne(apple cider) celebrations..Game and Tourney MVPs...So it was a blast for the kids..While our team is the best in Northern California, the teams from Southern California typically tend to be tougher...They usually have more ice, they are backed by the two NHL teams in the area and tend to have more kids to draw from.

We cruised through the preliminary and semi final rounds with 4 wins and Adrian getting 3 shutouts. The one game being an epic 1-0 battle where he really stood on his head. The finals didnt start off well, as we ran into a tough team. We were down half way through the game at 2-1, but then the boys turned it on and we won 5-3. They gave the tournament MVP to Adrian and it was a great weekend overall.

So there are two more goals left for the team...To win the NorCal(Northern California) Championship and then the State Championship..Currently we would be favored on paper to win Norcal and compete in State, but there is a lot of work to do...This will be probably one of those years in Adrian's minor hockey career that he will look back on and it will be the most successful and fun year he has had...Next year he moves up to Bantam and he has to make the decision how serious he wants to continue his hockey career. He can either stay in Fresno and play at this level, or he moves to a much higher league in San Jose or Southern California. His coaches have said he has the potential to go pretty far and maybe play some good level of College hockey, however he has to put the work in. He has to work hard, and study the game more..Not sure if he is ready for that, or if he wants to do that yet...He is having fun now with his team and what hockey brings him.

His coach played pretty high level hockey as a goalie. He played in the WHL, played for the Canadian National team at U18 and U19 and was the goalie for Canada in the Spengler Cup. He says while he has the talent, he isnt working hard as he needs to , to get to the higher level...Thats what separates the top goalies from the mediocre ones..While I have no visions of Adrian playing pro hockey, and not even Division 1 hockey...If he can play Division 3 and get some sort of a scholarship..It would be a great thing..

I have no issue with proper complaints but when it is the constant stale ones than I close my eyes and stop reading

I also love the trade talk at poker in port perry. I believe the seeds of a trade with Biatch the year he won sitting at the bar

you would have loved the early days of the league

Daniel, Tony B, Serge and myself playing in games at the charity casinos. Darrell, maybe Swacker Dave or Bryan dealing and sometimes playing. Other players at the table telling us to shut the fuck up about our stupid fantasy hockey league.

STOP looking at my team, keep your eyes on your own team pal!

See, he's got this crap all mapped out.
I'm gonna get 'spreadsheeted' again

Big Ms out.
Canadian Gothic vs PK Dealers lol I guess the draft was unnecessary.

I've been on social media today saying this, but worth mentioning in here:
The knights removed all advertising from their rink boards for their home opener and replaced it with 'Vegas strong'. Tonight, for their home opener, of which there will be exactly one for all time, they dropped all the gala extravaganza and decided to just honour victims and first responders. They will do their 'official' grand opening on Friday. This is a class move for the ages, and one that deserves an awful lot of respect.

We agree on a lot...

East
1. CANADIAN GOTHIC - barring something catastrophic I should get the bye. My team is deep.

2. I think Winning Combination, Red Ravens and Shoot Loose will battle for this bye. I'm gonna pick SHOOT LOOSE.

3-6 Six teams will battle for four spots. I think Winning Combination, Red Ravens and Magically Delicious will all make the playoffs with only one of Mustangs, Underdogs and Steelheads making it.

Puck Warfare and Cheap Thieves are definitely not playoff bound.

West
1 & 2 Big Ms vs WHALERS and PK DEALERS vs Swackers is what's going on here. Flip a coin, but I have a feeling Whalers and Dealers get the byes.

3-6 Two teams from above plus Shortstackers and Eagles will be in the playoffs.

Ingmen, Greaseballs, Shooters and Broadway will not.

Hey Bob
Question for you. Normally roster deadline is Saturday midnight (7 days before draft). Since draft is Friday this year will deadline for frozen rosters be Friday midnight (7 days), or Saturday midnight (6 days)? Thanks

I'm going to leave it at the Saturday since I will do all my contract work on the Sunday anyway.

FYI I have a lot of the contracts done and should get them all finished on Tuesday. I'll post when they are all done and can e-mail the spreadsheet to those that want it along with the usual post online.

And on that note, are we getting that new website this season?

Hey all, I wish I had good news but I don't think it will be completed in time to use this season. We have made good progress but the back end developer is a senior at his company and is doing this as a nixer in his spare time... which is never and I have three kids all under 10... so ... yeah... there it is...

A lot of the architecture, login system, database and security is in place. What is taking an unusual amount of time and back and forth is the UX and logic of the whole thing. If it doesn't all play together then there is no point right? Anyways, that's the update, sorry it isn't better news. We'll get there and it will be ****ing amazing when we do.

ps: did I mention the Developer is from Ireland and a professional Fencer (the stabbing type, not the backyard type)... which means he knows nothing about Hockey... as if it wasn't challenging enough already.

Let us in on your secret, Bob. Who did you call during the game to get Calgary to make one of the worst line changes in history when Bieksa had the puck behind his own net?

I have rosters from 17 teams, I haven't looked at any for accuracy. I just got home and I will be asleep by 10 and out tomorrow morning before 8.

Eddie the Eagle is on vacation in Hawai and is too busy bikini watching to put in a roster.
Greaseball thought it was the same format as in the past so he would suck so didn't do anything. He is putting a roster in now.
Chris is at the Pens game tonight and has been super busy. I have given him until he goes to sleep tonight to send me a roster.

This is for fun so no reason to be hard asses about the deadline.

#3756130 The Magically Delicious

Posted Ottawa_Biatch on 08 April 2017 - 06:57 PM

Wow can't believe it actually happened. These playoffs have been an absolute roller coaster of emotions.

I thought it would be funny to give a quick recap the history of the Magically Delicious and how we luck boxed our way into the title.

To think back to 2009, when I originally took over the team with guys like can't miss prospect Nikitia Filiatov & high priced FA rental stud D man Nicklas Lidsteon. The team actually had a lot of young talent and I could have built thru the draft. I'll admit I tried and failed.

In 2014, I finally realized this strategy wasn't working. I'm the first to admit I give zero f*cks about fantasy prospects and a poor judge of talent. So I did what I think I do better then most at, creative trades. There was no salary cap at the time and I was wondering why nobody exploited the rule. So I did, lol. Unfortunately, I had Crosby and Malkin, and they both got injured in the playoffs, and I fell to the Gothic in 4 in the Conference Finals.

In 2015, the rules were changed to prevent me from doing this, I became a little creative but nothing really meaningful came from it. I lost in the second round to Negreanu. I was actually up 3-1 in the series and he delivered a dick cheese pizza to my door and won 3 straight to knock me out.

2016 was a dud year, didn't even make the playoffs.

2017, honestly, the plan was originally to draft some high priced FA and then flip them for future picks and young talent. My idiot self tho asked for way too much and nobody wanted Stamkos, Malkin, Coutoure etc for my ridiculous price. So the plan was to trade them at the deadline but then my junk ass team had a decent lead in the division. The degenerate in me, said screw it, I know my team isn't as good as the top tier teams but the playoffs are a crapshoot. So I went all in and did my usual thing. Big name super forwards and no name defencemen. I just made some crazy moves and you know the rest.

Just a shout out to PK Dealers. One of the nicest guys in the league. Texting me about injuries and stuff. They will be back next year.

I just want to thank all the teams in the playoffs and the league. This has been super enjoyable and it's fun seeing you all. I am so happy. Imaginary high fives for everyone.

Wow, what an exciting series this ended up being.
I was up last night watching to see if Gothic could close it out, or Whalers could force a game 7.
Congrats Dale.

With all the excitement done, I guess it will a boring few days with not much to follow until NHL playoffs start.

Although a Guinness cup without Swacker Dave is like
poutine without cheese, it just fries and gravy, good but not the same.

Thank you!
The Guinness Cup is only for former AHL champions ;) Perhaps you'll be eligible next year...I hear there's another AHL playoff game...not sure if that's true, but if so, good luck!
