i played backgammon alot before i started playing poker. It is a good game and i recommend to start playing it. It may not directly relate to poker but it definitely is somewhat similar.Basically, if you have the aptitude and are smart enough to be a good to excellent backgammon player, you are gonna be smart enough to be a good poker player and make money.

Billups has been awesome this series, parker cant handle him and billups is shredding him. Seems like they need to go to him more though down the stretch , especially in the last 2 minutes. Billups should have got the ball on their last possession in game 5 and this series coulda been over with by now.Chauncey is da most underrated PG in the NBA i think.

Paul Magriel is an eccentric genius for sure.He is like the god of backgammon or to compare to poker, he is the Doyle Brunson of backgammon, or at least was. His Backgammon book was pretty much the bible of backgammon for 20 years after he wrote it in the 70s, its a little outdated now, but is still up there. There was some court case a while back where some state wanted to ban the play of backgammon for money. And they had Magriel testify as an expert witness that backgammon is indeed a game of skill and not all just luck and it ended up being legalized.I have heard rumors though that he ha

i dont know, maybe im just a tight player then. But if i got reraised to 2400, id be pretty sure i dont have the best hand, there arent many hands i beat, im either dominated by an Ace and a higher kicker or vs a decent pocket pair. At best in any situation i am a coinflip and i just got re raised by the other big stack while there are 3 other stacks smaller than mine just hanging around. -

Because it was 5 handed and 4 places got paid.I had about 8000 in chips and he has about 7000, together we had a little more than half the chips in play while the other 3 stacks were much smaller than us averaging probably around 3000 a piece.i know i would fold A9 to a reraise for about a third of my chips, in this situation -

ok, thanks guys for responses. looks like the consensus opinion is i should have reraised, i agree.i am thinking though that if i reraised to about 2400, he may have folded. -
ok.. heres the situation, i am in a 20 dollar 18 person sit and go on stars..I have been chipleader pretty much throughout tourney. Its down to 5 people and 4 places get paid. Blinds are at 200/400.guy in 2nd place with about 7000 in chips, minimum raises to 800 UTG and i just call with AK in the SB. i have about 8000 chips. flop comes A93 and i check to him, he bets out 800 and i go all in. he has A9 for 2 pair and i am now crippled and end up crawling into the money and finishing 4th place. In hindsight, sure it looks like i should have re raised preflop i guess. But was what i did "techini

i also started with 5 buck on stars about a little over a month ago. i played .02./.04 limit until i got 10 bucks, then i played a 5 50 sit and go and won it. since then i am running with it and havent looked back. turned 5 dollars into 1400 in a little over a month, not too bad.so i would suggest taking a stab at a 5 dollar sit and go and if u dont win it grind it out again at the 02 /04 tables .

i think what wroto said is right, i should have raised pre flop and bet the flop. But since i didnt, i was in a different situation. i mean after he checks pre flop, and a flop of A Q 8 rainbow . i am just about 100% i have best hand. Maybe he could have Q8. but thats about it, if he has A and kicker higher than 6, i think this player would have raised from what i saw in his play so far.I respect what you guys are saying, but i dont think you are looking at it from the same perspective as me.

sure, but i didnt raise pre flop, and i checked on the flop, i did not get re raised, if i showed strength that would be a different story, but i didnt. My whole point is that i was trying to trap him, and i did. went just like i planned.

i know ace rag is by no means a good hand, but after everyone folds around to u in the SB, its looks pretty decent, and if my opponent had an A with a decent kicker, i would think he would raise pre flop. So, the situation of being heads up and him checking pre flop, i m pretty sure i have best hand. Thats why i thought it was the right play.Actually, the hand went just like i had planned in my head after i saw flop, i checked hoping to induce a steal of the pot and was gonna go all in over the top of him. and thats exactly what he did.If it wasnt a heads up pot , i would never have done

i was in a one table sit and go tonight, blinds were at 50-100 and my buddy was telling me i played this hand wrong. i think it was correct.ok so i am in the SB, everyone folds around to me, i have A6 and complete the SB, the BB checks.Flop comes A Q 8, since the BB checked pre flop, i am pretty i have the best hand here, in fact i am posititive i do. So i check, hoping to induce a bluff from him. he bets out 300 and i go all in for 1400. he calls with A4. I have him dominated, he catches a 4 on the turn and i am done. i am happy with play though and i think it was correct, what does everyon

Seems to me that one can make much more money playing sit and go's then playing limit holdem, unless you are playing very high limits.I have seen smash's poker stars experiment and it seems to be going well and he is a good player. But i would think he could make more playing sit and go's.Reason i am saying this is because i started out with 5 bucks on pokerstars about 4 days ago. played limit for 2 days and got it up to about 10 bucks. Then i decided to take a chance and play a 5 dollar sit and go and i ended up winning it. i went on to win 5 of my first 7 i played. Then i went back down to
