Absolute 0
The following is a hand Daniel mentioned in his blog. I think he played the hand poorly, but I also don't play these limits against fields this tough. Regardless, I thought it would be interesting for us Strategy folk to go over this particular hand. Anyone who is well versed in Stud should give analysis here especially. I dont think Daniel reads this forum, but his comments would be interesting as well. I clawed my way back to even though when the following hand came up against Gus Hansen in stud:I limped in with (J-J) J and Gus raised it with the high card Kd:Me: (J-J) JcGus: (x-x) KdI just called the bet and we took fourth street heads up:Me (J-J) Jc 5dGus: (x-x) Kd QhGus again bet $4000 and I just called looking to slow play the hand a little longer. On fifth street:Me: (J-J) Jc 5d 10dGus: (x-x) Kd Qh Jh Gus bet out $8000 and I raised it to $16,000. Gus looked slightly puzzled and re-raised me again to $24,000. I didn't think Gus had a straight or a set so I went ahead and re-raised the bet to $32,000. Gus just called, and at that point I put him on a pair and a draw, most likely a hand like K-10 in the hole. On sixth street:Me: (J-J) Jc 5d 10d 8cGus (x-x) Kd Qh Jh 10dYikes, that looks like a terrible card but I still thought I had the best hand. Since Gus re-raised me on fifth street it would have been difficult for him to have an Ace or a 9 in his hand unless it was a flush draw. I genuinely felt like that card paired Gus but it would have been a little silly to raise there just in case he already had a straight and was setting a trap for me.On the end Gus bet out again, and since the pot was so big I had to call hoping that Gus was betting two pairs. Gus came out of the hole with K-K-10 for a full house! Wow good thing I didn't make a full house or it would have cost me more than the $56,000 it already cost me. It was pretty obvious that Gus started with K-K-10, made two pair on sixth street and then a full house on the end.I think he should have re-raised third street. Gus (an aggressive and clever player who plays a lot of hands) raised with a K high showing. I think a re-raise is in order for Daniel showing a jack. Gus is likely going to call showing his K high.Again on fourth street, I think aggression is in order, especially considering the card Gus draws here. You have to be in cap mode on third and fourth here, bu Daniel chose to get cute with his trips.Fifth street is interesting because it is actually the first point in the hand where I would choose to slow down. I would just call his raise to 24K here and see sixth street.Sixth street is an easy just call. Daniel's reasoning for Gus not having an A or 9 is interesting. I don't think he has a 9, but gus having a hand like AK in the hole is very very possible, or better trips or a full house the way he has played it.
custom36 5
Well, I thinkthat on 3rd and 4th street it is reccomended that, with trips on 3rd street, you slowplay the first two streets so that your opponent can catch a pair or two pair. I read that in the 7 Card Stud section of Super System anyway. Seems like a pretty good strategy. If he bets while Gus has nothing, he may just pick up the antes.(Though I'm not a very good Stud player - take it for what it's worth)

KDawgCometh 2
Absaolute, your sooooooo wrong its not funny. Daniel made his move on the big street w/rolled up jacks and Gus drew out, it happens. I don't know how much stud you play, but a rolled up set is gonna take down the pot 95% of the time, so you want to build a big pot. You are wrong with how Daniel played it and I'd hope you wouldn't play it like you recomend
Absolute 0
I would, I would pop it up on fourth street not fifth.
Rocketwadster 0
I know from past experience that rolled-up trips aint shyte if your opponent(s) have a higher up card than your trips. I've fallen victim to many a higher set/full house etc. when my trips didn't improve. Slow playing is bad bad bad here in my opinion (when your opponent has the higher up card showing and is playing aggressively).
