PS3 is being outsold by the older Gameboy model.Console and Handled Sales April 2007Nintendo DS - 471kWii - 360kPlayStation 2 - 194kPSP - 183kXbox 360 - 174kGame Boy Advance - 84kPlayStation 3 - 82kOh and with that April sales total, Wii outpaced the first 6 months of any console ever produced including the almighty PS2.I know, I know... your thinking wait till FF13 and MGS4 hit. Well it now looks like FF13 isn't hitting until 08 at least and there are rumors of it being ported to the 360 due to those lackluster hardware sales in Japan. As far as MGS4 it probably won't be out this year either. Going through two Christmas seasons without a system selling killer app is going to lock Sony into the 3rd place role for a long time. Compared to the 360 the sales for the first 6 months don't look bad, but the 360 had severe system shortages the first 6 months. We have all seen PS3's collecting dust at Best Buy since after Christmas. All this amounts to more and more developers jumping ship and taking games to other platforms. On the bright side, I heard they are releasing a firmware update to play PS1&2 games in 1080p. That sounds pretty sweet Link to post Share on other sites

The other one was the Neo Geo, chances are you never heard of it because it didn't exactly take off. There is a definite cut off point for price of a console system, especially when you are going for market penetration. The idea in the industry is always sell your consoles cheap, make money on the games. Sony didn't just put out an overpriced system, they put out out a system with no killer applications (system sellers) to drive sales and now 3rd party developers who were signed on as making games exclusively for the PS3 have since jumped ship and either made thier games multiplatform or pulled them entirely.Meanwhile Nintendo is hitting whole new markets that gaming has been immune to before... Here in the US, owners are telling us what's going on inside their household. It's not surprising that 95 percent of males age six to 24 are playing Wii on a regular basis -- that's expected. But look what's happening to other people within the household. So this first column looks at males between the age of 25 and 49. 95 percent are reporting that they've tried Wii and then there's the percent reporting that they're playing on a regular basis, which is just over 60 percent. Now let's add women to that same age band. Women 25 to 49. Almost a third are regular users. Three quarters say that they've at least tried the system. What about men over 50? 16 percent are saying that they're playing regularly. Men over 50. Females over 50. Now this is amazing. 10 percent are saying that they're regular users of the Wii. She plays on it every night, camped out on th couch with the TV on. She asked me if I wanted to borrow it while I am on leave. Now I am thinking I should have said yes. (It's sad, but we had one.)Your right, but it dropped in price really fast and was also licensed to other companies to make various models and they had different price points for the basically same hardware, one of which was 400 if I remember right. princeof56k 0 Posted May 24, 2007 Share Posted May 24, 2007 I've seen the PS3s sitting in Best Buy. They're just too expensive. On the flip side, I cant even remember ever seeing a Wii at Best Buy. I know they have them. They just sell out as soon as they come in.Bottom line is the PS3 is still a game machine, and $500+ is just too much. Then Sony massively screwed up with shortages. Therefore, parents were more likely to buy the cheaper Wii for their kids. Once that happened, parents were more likely to try the thing out and spead the word to their friends (other adults with money). Nintendo had one of the best combinations of technology and marketing strategy I've ever seen. Link to post Share on other sites

But Sony also fell 500,000 consoles short of its production target. The 5.5 million PS3s shipped globally through March left the onetime king of the industry trailing both its main rivals, Nintendo (NTDOY) and Microsoft (MSFT).
