1. I will be disgusted and boycott hockey at least till September
2. I will not step in the vicinity of Ottawa until at least 2012
3. I will transfer $1 on Pokerstars to the first 25 people to PM me after the final whistle.
4. I will boycott the following products...IKEA and VOLVO...Even though I love Mats Sundin, I will have to boycott all Swedish products because Alfie the Clown is from there.
5. I will not enjoy the rest of my summer as all the annoying Senator fans will talk crap.
6. I will be disappointed that a ONE PROFESSIONAL SPORTS TEAM town will win a Stanley CUP and a 5 professional sports team town hasnt won one since that dreaded year(the one after 1966)...5 teams(Leafs,Jays,Raptors,Argos and Toronto FC) we dont count the rock as Lacrosse is for sissies from Ottawa.
7. I will forever hate Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza and delete them from my XBOX Nhl games. Also I will not go to dinner or socialize and even do business with any person that owns a Heatley or Spezza Jersey.
8. I will not participate in any federal election until the year 2009 as the winner would reside in Ottawa, this is a tough one as I love to exercise my democratic vote, however the Senators have ruined that for me as well.
9. The next person to say look at the bright side a Canadian team won the Cup, i will punch them in the stomach..not hard but enough for them to say OWW
10. I will teach my son the following poem: Roses are red violets are blue, The team from Ottawa is BOO HOO..

Hating on the Toronto FC in the first season. Of course they haven't won they barely fricken played.
Also the Blue Jays were back to back World Series Champions in 92 and 93.
Got to remember after 1967 the league expanded which had all original six franchises in one division. After 67 Montreal and Boston had the best teams of the late 60's and 1970's.

...will they be the first ever team with a non-Canadian/American captain to win the Stanley Cup?

Nope!
Johnny Gottselig, Captain of the 1935-1940 Chicago Blackhawks, won the Cup in 1937-1938, and was born in Odessa, Russia.
The team captain of the 1933-34 Cup winning Blackhawk team (Charlie Gardiner) was born outside North America as well, in Scotland.
I'm not sure if they were Canadian citizens or not when they won, but I'm not sure that was the trivia question either...
Anyway...

wow, well done sir
I can't disprove (and I also find it strange that a russian would've been a captain back then) but I'm impressed nonetheless

Except I'm fairly sure both of those guys grew up in Canada and were Canadian citizens. Danny Heatly was born in Germany, but I don't perceive him as being anything other than Canadian.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Gardiner moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his family at age seven. He played junior hockey with the Winnipeg Tigers from 1921 to 1924, and then joined the Selkirk Fishermen senior team for the 1924-25 season. The next year, Gardiner joined the Winnipeg Maroons of the Central Hockey League, which the following season became the American Hockey Association.

There you have it, both were Canadians as far as I'm concerned.

Gottselig's family moved to the Canadian prairies when he was just an infant. Later on in life. as his hockey career progressed to the point where he was constantly crossing the Canadian/American border to play in the National Hockey League, he would often create great delays since he declared his birthplace as being Russia. At that time relations between the Soviet Union and the Americans were beginning to thaw as a prelude to the Cold War, hence the reason why Johnny was of interest to American authorities. Eventually Johnny realized that it would be a whole lot easier to filled out his border crossing papers as being born in Canada.
This makes Gottselig the first born Russian player in the history of the National Hockey League, although he was raised and trained completely in Canada. Likewise, when he later became head coach of the Chicago Black Hawks, he became the first European head coach in the NHL, again with an asterisk.

Charlie Gardiner's nickname in hockey was the Wee Scot, what more do you want to label him as European?
Where you're born is what determines nationality, not where you grow up, unless you naturalize as a citizen of your adopted country, and there's no evidence I can find that either player ever did so.
Gottselig lived out the rest of his non-hockey playing life in Illinois, and he's buried there. Does that make him an American?
