Return Of The Shlhe (20/40)

Recommended Posts

Haven't played in a while, so here are some hands where I felt some rust. My guess is that some of this is attributable to NLHE.Hand 1Bodog 30/60 LHE (6-handed)Cobalt is CO w/ T :D T :icon_dance:. UTG is new to the table, so no read. Blinds are semi-competent.Pre-flop:UTG raises, 1 fold, Cobalt 3-bets, 2 folds, UTG callsFlop (7.5 SB): 3 :club: 2 :icon_dance: 9 :D (2 players)UTG checks, Cobalt bets, UTG callsTurn (4.75 BB): A :icon_dance: (2 players)UTG checks, Cobalt checksRiver (4.75 BB): Q :) (2 players)UTG checks, Cobalt checksFinal Pot: 4.75 BBHand 2Bodog 30/60 LHE (6-handed)Cobalt is Button w/ A :) Q :). UTG seems slightly LAG and I haven't noticed him open-limping before. CO is a donk/maniac/fish. Blinds are slightly more competent LAGs. My image is TAG.Pre-flop:UTG calls, 1 fold, CO calls, Cobalt raises, 2 folds, UTG calls, CO callsFlop (7.5 SB): A :icon_dance: 9 :icon_dance: T :icon_dance: (3 players)UTG bets, 1 fold, Cobalt raises, UTG callsTurn (5.75 BB): 4 :D (2 players)UTG checks, Cobalt bets, UTG callsRiver (7.75 BB): J :D (2 players)UTG checks, Cobalt checksFinal Pot: 7.75 BB

why wouldn't you bet the river on that last hand? Just seems obv. to bet it even though I'm not a limit player. You afraid of KQ/AJ?

Hand 1 - I think there is value in a turn bet.Hand 2 - I bet the river.

I'm an inverse person, I'll show you.A normal person's odds of winning vs. a two outer on the river- 96%so the equation for a normal person, f(x)=-2x+100, x= number of cards you have to dodge, y is the percent you win the hand.Mine works a little differently than that- my odds of losing a two outer on the river is the inverse of that equation.f-1(x)=x+50. Apparently I had a 52% chance of winning on the river. Dammit I never win those coinflips!Life's not fair but math is fun.
f(x) = y = -2x + 100y-100 = -2x(100 - y)/2 = xSo, for a 2 outer:f-1(x) = (100-x)/2f-1(2) = 98/2 = 49.

yeah, last hand I bet the river, if he hasn't shown significant trickiness/stupidity. at bodog, you might get c/red by two pair, so its closer, but in most situations, he's gotta donk the river if he's improved past you.first hand i play it the same with KK, and feel its better value than betting the turn and checking behind the river. however with TT, your hand just isn't invulnerable enough to do so, IMO. i'll take the standard line (zach's) and bet the turn, checking behind the river.

Haven't read replies...For Hand 1...The good news is they can't check-raise you all in! Even before I saw the river action I thought you needed to keep firing on the turn. Work with the fold equity. Interesting thought: is the pot juuuuuuuuust small enough that we could fold if check/raised on the turn? Against an unknown? I know that the creativity lends itself to aggression, especially at this level... so I think I'd call down if check/raised on the turn. I'd feel like I was lighting money on fire calling off another bet on that queen though.Hand 2...I don't play as high as 30/60... but I can't seem to talk myself out of value-betting the river. We've had the lead the whole way, probably playing defense with the best hand. Flushes missed, only straights are backdoor... I think you need to bet/call the river. If he wants to pay off a bad kicker, give him the opportunity.

Hand 1:If we're ahead, we can't let Villain spike a KQJ and outdraw us.That would be sad.I bet the turn for protection. If he folds, I'm happy.Hand 2:Standard river value bet it seems.--CM

Just for everyone's benefit...y'all had it right. In the first hand, the opponent had 77. In the second, villain had A6. Basically, I post stuff like this to chide myself for missing value. Again, I think this was a result of being in the habit of checking middling hands on the turn and river in NL. I probably need some practice to get out of these habits, but I don't foresee much SHLHE until at least mid-summer.

when in doubt, betting isn't a bad idea
