Only the Brewers can do the following.A: Have a pitcher flirt with a no-hitter in the 8th inningB: Have a 8 run lead at the same timeC: Blow that lead in less than 2 inningsKeep Gagne out of the closer's role when he returns, and I'll be happy. Crew gains 3 games on the Cubs, despite this ugly finish.

After the meltdown against Arizona, great job to sweep Pittsburgh.Only 3.5 back, and it looks more and more like C.C. Sabathia will be starting Tuesday.

wow the brew crew gets Sabathia. That was unexpected. I really like how proactive their GM was here.....fortune favors the bold and all that.

Almost slim to none that they extend him after the season. Ryan Braun just got the biggest contract in Brewers history for about $45 million. The Brewers want to win now, that's why they made this deal. I just hope that they make an effort to keep Sheets. The Cubs are still the best team in the division, but I'll take the Wild Card.

well they only had to give up one of their three super-prospects. (though La Porta is a good one)I just think that the Brewers front office knows they have not been in the playoffs since 1982. And they know they just passed St. Louis in the Wild Card standings. So, I think they are doing whatever they have to do to make the playoffs this year just to give the fan base something. And adding one of the 5 best SPs in baseball should be enough to keep them ahead of the Cards, Marlins, Mets, Braves hodge podge.Plus, they could totally take the patented Marlins route to the World Series.....any team with CC and Sheets could be tremendously dangerous in a short series.

I gues Im just against the rent-a-player strategy. I would never give up a top prospect to acquire even the best player in the leauge if I have no chance of resigning him. Unless they make the Series I dont see it as being worth it.Plus, lets say you make the move, it works out and you make the series, maybe even win it. Then you dont even pony up the cash to resign him. That makes you look bad to the fans. Yeah, they'll be happy for a little while, but eventually they'll tire of that kind of strategy.I dont know.

I don't think they're really renting. Usually when teams get a player like this they usually wind up signing him to a long term contract. With a player of this caliber the team wants to show that they are serious about winning and not just short-term. Also barring any of his injuries flaring up again, they will likely sign him for an extended contract.BTW, congrats to the Brewers for making a move like this. I was really hoping the Sox would go after him. sigh.

Thats what I thought. But I heard Buster Olney say that the Brewers will not resign him. He said that the teams executives have said that they cannot afford him. So they are taking a one time shot. That is what really threw me off. CC is going to get 20 million from someone. The Brewers cant afford that, apparently.

I have to admit.....this is a GREAT point that I did not think of when I first commented.I still understand their motivation. A quarter century is a LONG time.

Yeah, but at least it's not a WHOLE Century. :ts :club:

It wasn't unexpected. Almost everybody epected the Indians to trade him to the Brewers.

The Brewers are going for it all. They trades away their prospects (and their future) and they don't have a good chance of signing CC and as far as I know, they don't have a big chance of resigning Sheets. They really are going for the win here, cuz their future looks bleak.

If they aren't going to be able to resign Sheets, then they really do need to go for it now. For a team that is consistently in the hunt, I don't like the rent-a-player strategy, but if you only got 1 shot, might as well take it.

all I can say is that the Brewers better win the World Series this year because this is the only chance they have of doing it with Sabathia in the rotation
