I was playing with a pro out in California this summer and he was telling us about where the good games are and pros he respects etc. He went out of his way to say nice things about Laak saying he was a sincerly good all around guy.

Seems like a decent guy. But I don't think I would like to spend too much time around him in real life. Probably better in small doses.

He beats some of the biggest NL games in the world. He's entertaining and seems like a good guy. His Bluff articles are awesome. I dont see what there is not to like.

I thought those were nude pics, but then looked at the bottom and realized they are just comics! Whew. Now people can explain that to their boss if they happen to be looking through the forums at work.

I am sort of the opposite of most people.
I thought he was a real annoying a-clown when I first saw him. But now I see that his antics are really all about his absolute love for the game. I think he is really funny most of the time. -------------------- Phil Hellmuth: You got me again Phil. I don't mind.
Guess what? We're gonna play again when it means something by the way. Phil Ivey: Just come on down to the Bellagio. It's real simple. |

Antonio, on the other hand, has really impressed me w/ his play on shows like HSP. I used to think he was a ****** too, but the more I've watched from him, the more gifted I think he is. I have to agree with you. As much as he's written some completely gay crap (Rocks & Rings), he's grown on me to the point where I actually think he'd be a fun guy to hang out with. And I agree, his play has really impressed me. I still remember season 1 (I think) of the WPT where he was running all over Helmuth. It was incredible, he read Phil like a book. -------------------- Take back what's yours! Vote RON PAUL for President in 2008! www.ronpaul2008.com

There is a (not very) well known story about Phil Laak that has been floating around the New York poker scene for a long time. Supposedly around 10-12 years ago Phil did a bad, bad thing. The issue has since been resolved. Beats me if the story is true but I've heard similar stories from multiple people.

Could you be a little more vague...? I mean this post almost makes a point or adds some sort of relevance. Don't leave us hanging. Gossip Away. Blah. I hate gossip and rumors. The story is Phil Laak was involved in an armed robbery of a poker club in New York at some point in the late 90's. Because of this, Phil was forced to leave New York under threats of death. When he went off and became famous, he was approached by the people he may or may not have robbed, and restitution was paid, dropping the issue. I have no knowledge that this is true, but I've heard it from a few different people and it's always struck me as an interesting story. |
