Scary Boards With A Pp

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to plug a leak in my game and need some advice. I seem to consistently call bets when I feelim beat when I hold a large pp but the board is scary. I finally folded one in a small SNG, but its been eating me up so I need to know your opinions. Stacks were sorta small for the amounts being bet so I pussied out with a raise on the turn, which is what I guess I should have done? Btw, this opponent and I had an earlier hand which I'll post after this one that explains why I checked the flop. I would raise a little more preflop. And you should convert your hands and post in the tournament forum.http://www.neildewhurst.com/hand-converter/I think you have to register to convert hands here, but it makes it so much easier to read.Full Tilt PokerNo Limit Holdem TournamentBlinds: t80/t1607 playersConverterStack sizes:UTG: t3815UTG+1: t1600MP1: t1225CO: t2255Hero: t2055SB: t1115BB: t1435Pre-flop: (7 players) Hero is Button with K :D K :club:4 folds, Hero raises to t320, SB folds, BB calls t160 (pot was t560).Flop: A :D 2 :) 8 :D (t720, 2 players)BB checks, Hero checks.Turn: T :) (t720, 2 players)BB bets t320, Hero calls t320 (pot was t1040).River: 9 :D (t1360, 2 players)BB is all-in t795, Hero folds.Uncalled bets: t795 returned to BB.Results:Final pot: t1360

TY for the advice. The converter is cool. In a cash game I'll generally call there because I only have to be right 1 in 3 times to break even with the odds the pot was laying me, but a call in the tourney makes me very short stacked, so I guess I'm asking if this is a correct fold in a 9 handed SNG.

Good fold, you were beat.Don't ever fall in love with your hand, you will get it again, and you will win with it and lose with it. Falling in love with a hand is the same as falling in love with a fish. They don't love you back so save your effort.

you have to raise more pf and c-bet the flop in the first one to protect your hand and figure out where you are at. the line you took is seriously uggo.the second one (A5) you can fold preflop. goodluck.

I'd raise the KK more preflop. 3xBB, maybe more. The players in these things like to call too much.Second hand, even with the BB discount, I fold A5 preflop. You probably only have 3 outs vs an UTG+1 raise and you don't know if it's the A or the 5.-M

When you say "Scary Board" you should ask yourself why it's scary? The first hand you have Kings. If the Ace scares you, dump the hand as soon as possible. However, the 9 is not a scary card for you there. What are the odds that villain is playing QJ on that line? (I would at least take a stab at the flop to see if you can represent an Ace, but that's not my point)On the second hand, do you really think that villain has 3/4 or 8/9 in that hand? Would he play the hand like that if he did? (The bigger leak in your game is not folding A/5 preflop to a raise, even a minraise)

It's a scary board because he called the turn bet which either indicates teh Ace played slowly or maybe he picked up the straight draw, up or down gut shot style, I dunno. He could have been on Q/J or 6/7 of clubs and the turn was real nice for him. Maybe he calls a 3x BB bet with those suited connectors. Doesn't really matter, the point is it was scary for me and regardless of the mistakes made prior (i raised 3x teh BB on the button, after all, I wasn't scared of a little action), my main question is, Is it a mistake in a SNG (not my speciality) to fold this hand? If I call and am wrong I have like 800 chips and am hurting. By folding I'm right at 1500, but is that too passive? Most the people I talk to say I was beat and the fold was good but I should have bet the flop....The A/5 (SOOOOOOTED) is a hand I'll call a min raise from out of the BB when the blinds are real low, hoping for some fun on the flop or I get away pretty easy. I didn't post that for that reason though, I posted it to show how the opponent check a flopped Ace with A/K. Yes I got lucky and caught Aces up, but that check was going through my mind on the subsequent hand with the KK. Anyways.... I don't have any ego involved here...just trying to get better at SNGs and looking for some help. Thanks for the comments all.
