anyone see the tech for laughing? seriously, joey crawford is a very mediocre ref who is constantly on a power trip. he thinks he is the show. what happened yesterday was a disgrace and at some point they need to suspend this guy for a long period until he understands we pay to see tim duncan not a pudgy bald a$$

So I didn't watch Sportcenter last night (sopranos, entourage, and my guilty pleasure of vh1 reality shows), what happened?
duncan got an offensive foul. he and crawford exchanged words. Duncan went to the bench. another foul on the spurs (dubious but maybe legit). duncan says something from the bench (didnt look like much) and crawford T's him up on the bench. Duncan looks amazed but remains calm.
Then another call goes against the spurs. very very dubious call. Duncan and Horry react on the bench by laughing and duncan puts his face in a towel. crawford sees the laughing and gives him a SECOND tech on the bench in a 3 minute span and tosses him.
after the game duncan says that crawford told him "Do you want a fight?" several times. Crawford says that Duncan called him a piece of chit (duncan denies this, but if he said it he was accurate at least). either way it seems like crawford was way overboard. everyone on the spurs bench reacted to the 2nd call. every player. yet duncan gets a (SECOND) tech? It looked like a vendetta and it is just ridiculous.

Yes, thats why its always a good idea to stay in the ref's favor. The refs will not only hold a grude against a player for the rest of the game, but I guarantee this guy will have a grudge against Duncan for a long time. Agreed that something needs to be done about this.

Yup, kinda like how the refs had a grudge against Cuban last year in the Finals.

I was watching the game so I caught it live as well as the other 5 replays.
Slamming tables, yapping your trap, throwing objects...THAT is a technical.
Laughing (and not like rolling on the floor laughing) is NOT a reason to kick out the team's MVP. That was so retarded I can't possibly see how any reasonable person could justify such a call.
I think Canebrain made the only reasoning possible...the ref must have a huge ego but a major self confidence issue or something to flip out that. I've seen Van Gundy laugh harder than Duncan did.

Tends to happen when you publicly rip them as often as he did, sometimes your better off just shutting your mouth.

I think It has gotten WAY out of hand. The refs complain to Stern about the complaining about calls so we have a bunch of techs for whinnying. Ok. If they get that then they must be held accountable for things like Duncan and Crawford incident. Crawford DEFINITELY shouldn't be allowed to work the playoffs.

I agree, the whole technical for blinking this year has been silly. The NBA should definetly do something about the situation, throwing out a marquee player like Duncan while he is on the bench is ridiculous.

Usually NBA ref's are the most respectable out of any referees of the pro leagues, so this situation is hard to believe. But, it is also hard to believe that Tim Duncan who has proven to be one of the few role models in the league would lie about such an issue. Now I never saw the play, but it sounds like that Tim Duncan is not in the wrong here and this should definitely be looked into by Stern and the league office.

Fire this idiot ref. Duncan is one of the leagues premiere superstars. You cant have some idiot ref pulling stunts like this. Duncan is one of the nicest and most professional players in the league, fuck that clown crawford.
Unfortunately Crawford has the reputation of being one of the best NBA ref's ever, so the only way he would get fired is to say something racist.

Fire him? Nope. He definitely needs to be punished. Him not be allowed to work the playoffs is good enough. Sends him and other refs a message. They make more money when they ref games in the playoffs.

As much as I despise Joey Crawford, I have no problem admitting that he is one of the better refs in the league when it comes to calling a game. NBA ref is a ridiculously hard job and that is why I try and cut these guys slack on tough calls (like blocking v. charging, hand-check calls, etc.)
however, no matter how good a game you call you cant forget that the best refs are the ones you forget are even on the court. Crawford has never understood this and they need to hold him out of the last two rounds of the playoffs this year so he gets the message.

I heard on ESPN yesterday that the last two Spurs regular season loses before Sunday were games that Crawford reffed and he T'd up Duncan in both games... coincidence?
that they lost both games probably is a coincidence (who was the other opponent?).
that duncan was T'd both times is definitely not a coincidence.
edit: at Indiana. They lost by one point. Spurs outshot the Pacers 33-22 at the foul line.

ummm, I think you forgot a SW at the end of that.
If you find this hard to believe, you haven't been watching the NBA for the past 20 years. I quit watching the NBA and gave up my season tickets 10 years ago SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF JOEY CRAWFORD. He is by far the most egotistical ref of them all. He is prideful and cares more about having players bow down to him, than he does about the integrity of the game. He is, and has been a disgrace to the game in my opinion.
Ref'ing an NBA game is a hard job. I don't think JC is horrible because he blows calls. I think he is horrible because he routinely makes up calls to punish players and show them that he is in charge. I absolutely cannot stand him. And this latest display is nothing new.
I'm blown away that Stern suspended him. Bravo, finally something is being done to say that hey, the game isn't about the refs, they are there to serve the purposes of the game.
