I'm vacationing this summer in San Diego and would like to play some poker. Any advice on best casinos would be appreciated. Thanks.

The biggest poker room in San Diego is Ocean's 11 Casino in Oceanside off the I-5 Freeway. It's got everything from 1-2 all the way to 20-40 or higher. And spreads a couple NL, Stud, Omaha games as well. The staff is extremely professional and the atmosphere is a family atmosphere where if you were to become a regular, everybody would know your name. It's my recommendation for poker in San Diego. Elsewhere in SD are the Indian Casinos - Sycuan, Barona, Viejas, Pechanga - games there are okay but their poker rooms are not as big nor spread as many types of games as Ocean's 11. Then there are your hole in the ground card rooms, Lucky Lady, Village Club, etc... don't know much about those. Go for Ocean's 11.

Pechanga actually has a really nice new poker room. I think its about 55 tables or so and has about 20 42" plasmas on the walls and a few jumbo screens. Spread the limits pretty good, 2/4, 3/6, 4/8, 8/16, 20/40, 40/80, and have $100, $300, and $500 NL HE. Its really spacious in the room, overall a nice atmosphere. My only complaint about pechanga is the tournament structures they have, probably the worst I've ever experienced. The raise the blinds so fast its basically like a turbo tournament. After about 1 1/2 hours it turns into 2 move poker.... All in or Fold...seriously. Pechanga really needs to change their tournament format. On that note, anyone know where they have good daily tournaments in the area with better structure.

Interesting. I'll have to research how far any of these are from my hotel. I'm staying at the Hilton on Torrey Pines.

Then play at Oceans 11, it'll be the closest to you and it's very nice. Good spread on the limits too.

Ahh Torrey Pines, my old stomping grounds. You should try to play some golf while you are there. Ocean's 11 is 15-20 minutes north on Interstate-5 off Mission Ave in Oceanside. You can see it on your right off the freeway. Pechanga will be 1hr Northeast off the 15 freeway. Viejas, Sycuan, Barona will be 45-60 minutes southeast off the 8 Freeway. Have fun. What game/limits are you looking to play? The 20/40 at Ocean's 11 is juicy. 8/16 is okay over there too. They'll also have a few types of NL games spread.

I live 15 minutes away from Ocean's 11 and play there monthly. And I have to agree it's the best place to play poker in San Diego. Pachenga has the nicest poker room. With plenty of cash games going on and two tournaments daily. You will also find more fish at the Indian casinos (Pachenga, Sycaun, Viejas, & Pauma) than Ocean's 11.-Mike
