Flintsword Qualified To The Wpt Grand Prix In Paris !

Last week I qualified for the $300 +$22 Paris Qualifer at FullTiltPoker starting on the cheap with $4.50. There were 52 players in this tournament, most of them serious players, so I took it as seriously as possible. ONly one prize, so my maxim applies:"Be patient, ... or become a patient."Surprise! I won 1st and am going to the WPT in Paris !! :icon_dance:Some of these players were just plain dangerous: one Gold Jersey FTOPS winner and the excellent player thegreat22. The others I did not recognize but they were there, so I was pretty wary.I do not post as much on FCP as I used to, but am a loyal lurker. All of you that take the time to post REAL poker information, thank you. I could not have won this without improving and the FCP forum helped a lot!I got drawn out on three times finding myself low on chips and having to fight my way back to a reasonable chip stack. One memorable flopped J high srt8 All in called by two pair looking for his four outs, ... and found one of them on the river, leaving me with a few hundred chips ... Thanks for the encouragement. This US$16,000 win is my biggest ever, so I am looking forward to my first tournament (ever). You can bet I am going to play really serious poker when I am there.Although it sounds sacrilegious, I intend to forget about the money and prizes at the WPT Paris Grand Prix . I figure that it is just a distraction from the game anyways. During the qualifier I got so engrossed by the game and the play (which was excellent quality) that the play became more important than the prize.If I win something, it is a bonus. I want to concentrate on good decisions and also some bad decisions accepting a small negative edge in situations where the payoff is big enough to justify the risk.I will take pictures and since my laptop is coming with me to Paris (plus the adapter for those weird French plugs so I can get power) I can try and schedule some updates for FCP and by your request, some pictures.It would be pretty cool to have Daniel Negreanu at the same tournament, but the LAST thing he needs is another person bothering him.What would be cooler would be to get other FCPers at that tournament. To the OP, much congrats on a top notch job well done............can't wait to hear about the trip to Paris for the WPT.Ice: I won a WSOP prelim qualifier for a 1500 tourney entry plus 500 spending. I thought for sure tilt would take care of my entry and put the 500 spending in my account. They put the entire 2000 into my account. I was really surprised. I guess they aren't doing the leg work for the winners. I would be interested to know if the OP got 16k shipped to his acct or if tilt is taking care of his arrangements.

Out of curiosity, did you still play in the WSOP event or keep the cash?I have a feeling they wouldn't do something like this for such a large prize, if someone wins a seat through them, they want them over there covered head to toe in Full Tilt gear advertising...

Ice.........I just won my entry a few days ago. I'm planning on playing one of the 1500 buck NL tourneys that start pretty much any Saturday at noon in June. I'm leaning towards the 23rd for two reasons, first, it was a fairly small tourney last year compared to others and second, the 50k HORSE starts the next day, and if/when I go busto I want to rail that tourney.

Thanks a lot for the congrats , it was a tough qualifying tournament and a lot tighter than I would have thought.FullTiltPoker deposited the entire $16,000 in my account and I have to make the arrangements. No complaints here. I travel a lot for my work, speak fluent French, and this is *really* not work.After really looking at my hand history from the $300 WPT Paris Qualifier, there were a lot of dubious hands. Granted, I won the event, so good hand won out over the mistakes, but it is sobering to get off the pedestal and really look at all the decisions made: I could have played better.

Thanks for the encouragement Barack! I am not going to crack under the pressure at the tournament for the simple reason I am going to be enjoying it too much to let pressure be a factor. The whole idea of playing qualifiers is to be able to access these kind of tournaments without forking over a small fortune.I am already getting a strong return on my investment of $4.50 (entry in the sub qualifier), ... I have learned a lot and my poker is improving. In the long term, that improvement is the best return possible.As for making the final table or winning, ... ... first things first. First I play well and solidly in the actual tournament is the first order of business.Good luck in your games!

Thank you pokergolf for the congrats. Fulltiltpoker credited the total amount to my account within a day. They have some withdrawl restrictions, but I can live with them ($5,000 twice a week max).Customer service was super-nice, recognizing that my winning a prize like this was a real event for me.BREAKING NEWS: The Grand Prix de Paris has been dropped from the and will *not* be accepting any internet qualifiers for the Grand Prix de Paris. On the website of the Aviation Club de Paris there is a clear notice that anyone even CLAIMING to have qualified from the internet will not be paired.FullTiltPoker emailed me and released me from going to Paris and playing. I can pick any WPT in the coming year to play in. I talked to a few people in the know, including someone at www.pokeringeurope.com and I *could* just pay my way in, and shut up.My problem with that is that in the unlikely event I have the tournament of my life and do well, how would I like someone tapping me on the shoulder and telling me that I am an internet qualifier, and I can leave now, with no prize and quite realistically the French law after me? Yes, I know, my making the final table of a WPT is about as likely as getting gored by a Rhino on the streets of New York, but you play to win and take a good look at some of the winners in the past year. Not impossible. Has anyone seen the pro Stringer getting drawn out on over and over by Steve Ambrose in the Carribean. It got so rediculous that Sexton was openly calling Steve a luckbox to which Steve (rightly) commented "... that was pretty harsh".Ok, enough "fantasy of making the final table" ... I digress. So the Paris is a case of head you lose and tails you do not win. :bubble_bye:In any case, I am $16,000 ahead and will go to a WPT event in the coming year. I'll let FCP know what is up and post details when I am there. Any ideas what the best WPT event for an amateur is to go to and why?
