So here's the problem I've been having - my computer has been disconnecting from our wireless internet very consistently (several times per hour), with no apparent explanation.
- it is a pretty new Inspiron 6400 from Dell
- when i first bought it, an FCPer helped me by going through and eliminating unnecessary processes in the msconfig menu, though now when i start it, its still running 50+ processes
- high-speed wireless connection, though i've tried it at friend's apartments with the same results. also, when i tried connecting it with an ethernet cord, it didn't always connect
- it sometimes shows it disconnecting and reconnecting, but often simply disconnects despite saying its properly connected
- disconnects are usually only a few seconds, though have lasted a couple hours a few times
- I use McAfee, but disabling the firewall hasn't seem to have had any effect.
So what is my problem? Most people have suggested the Network card, but that seems unlikely since its new, and plugging in the ethernet connection (other computers connected to that same wireless were working, while mine wasn't) did not fix it either.
HELP!

Mine does that too sometimes, no idea why, but quite often I have to reboot the router to get it to kick back in. It's pretty annoying.

other wireless connections running in your vicinity could affect the strength of yours. Perhaps try switching to another channel from your router configuration.
im not sure what this means. we live in a house with several apartments, so there's a couple other wireless connections, but no more than 3-4, and none particularly strong.
i've never done much with routers/modems, so anything to do with configurations i'll need detailed instructions.
i should also note that this is a new problem, as of a few weeks ago. nothing changed, but a couple weeks ago this suddenly started happening.

Yep wireless signals can conflict with each other. My buddy had the same problem and it was caused by his wireless phone line. We that was disconnected he was fine. Since that wasn't a long term fix we changed the channel in the router settings and it's been fine ever since. You just have to use trial and error to find an open channel.
