I don't have hand history, but I've noticed myself doing this a couple of times. It's really frustrating. In Limit Hold Em flop TPTK or TPGK and bet out. Get to the river and a scare card hits i.e. third flush card or third straight card and I don't bet. I guess I'm scared of the check raise or raise, but I did this in three hands I remember yesterday. Is it dumb to assume someone that calls to the river is on a draw? Am I playing too passive? Thoughts?

you should definately do more value bets on the river, many players will call you down with second pair. Unless you have a good read that your opponent is a solid player, otherwise you should definately bet.

If you bet the flop and the turn, you're not playing passiveRiver scare cards are sometimes a problem, but if you've got to bet it some of the time, if you get raised...it's only one more bet and they may have TP worse kicker more often then you'd think or even chasing with 2nd pairOn the river, with position, I'll often check with position
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

Taken from SSHE:You have AK :club: on button. Two limpers, you raise, blinds fold, limpers call. Flop is K :D 9 :) 6 :). they all check, you bet and they call. Turn is a 7 :club:. They check, you bet, they both call again. Finally, the river flushes and pairs up with the 6 :D. They both check to you. What do you do?Answer: BET.The river is a scare card but you should bet anyway. one of your opponents could have diamonds or a six, but they could easily have a nine, a seven, a weak king, a busted straight draw, a pocket pair, ace-high, or anything else. If one of your opponents has drawn out, he might have decided to bet instead of going for a check-raise. That is, it is more likely that you are still ahead AFTER your opponents check than it is before they check. Here is an example to clarify this concept. Say you hae the butt, and your opponent is drawing to a better hand than yours. You know there is a 50% chance he will make his hand. The other 50% of the time, he is will not improve, but still call your bet. If he makes his hand, you know he will bet 50% of the time and check raise you the other 50%. Thus, half the time he will check call. A quarter of the time he will bet,and the other quarter he will check raise. Before he acts, there is a 50% chance he drew out. After he checks, there is only a 1/3rd chance! If he checks, he is tiwce as likely to call as raise (he check-calls 50% of the time and and check raises only 25%). Thus, two out of three times after he checks, he will call, not raise. Even if you suspect he mightcheck raise, you are better off after he checks than yo are before hand.Against one or two loose opponents you should bet your good hands even if a scar card comes. Being loose, their possible range of hands is broad. The broader this range, the LESS likely they are to have a specific draw like a flush or bottom pair, and the m MORe likely they have a weak pay-off hand. Frequently, up to half the possible river cards will complete some draw. Since your opponents have only two cards, they cannot have every possible draw. usually the completed draw will not be their draw. Do not let every river card scare you, BET!.Well said, good sirs.
