Wow...painful. http://deadspin.com/...dium=socialflowWorst part is that it shouldn't even of counted. From the comments...

Quote

"83.4 Disallowed Goal – If the puck is shot on goal during a delayed off-side, the play shall be allowed to continue under the normal clearing-the-zone rules. Should the puck, as a result of this shot, enter the defending team’s goal during a delayed off-side, either directly or off the goalkeeper, a player or an official on the ice, the goal shall be disallowed as the original shot was off-side"

But the puck wasn't shot on goal.

You can't prove he didn't do it on purpose! But I can't imagine the rule there is that the shot has to be purposeful. You can't score without shooting on goal.Is there any precedent for them to replay this? Normally you don't replay officiating mistakes of course, but nothing happened after the goal (obviously), so there's no reason it couldn't happen. I'm sure a final score is a final score, but it does seem a little to let the result stand if indeed the goal was illegal in a non-arguable way.

Why didn't the goalie make any effort to stop the puck? Seems like he could've stuck his stick out or something.

The goal didn't violate the rule that has been referenced.

Again, why? Still because it wasn't "shot on goal?" I'm pretty sure that what happened meets the definition of "shot" - the rule even states that it can't go off an official before going in, implying that "shot" is pretty leniently defined.

Disagree that it's not the intention of the rule.

The AHL has come out and said it shouldn't have counted. Sorry Dale but that is a shot on goal.

Must've been a Bruins official who said that. They count anything within 25 feet of the net as a shot on goal.

I believe the intent of the rule is to disallow any goal that comes from a delayed offside. I do think that the wording of the rule is poor because they point out all the cases that are OK but leave out this case that could be interpreted as being indirect because the puck went off the boards. The rule is just trying to say that if it was a delayed offside and a defending player directed the puck to his own net, it becomes a live puck again.

If it goes in it counts as a shot on goal. Not an opinion...just a fact.

This has turned into a pretty good series. Last night's game was really good hockey, IMHO. Considering the first two games went to OT, this is pretty much how I was predicting the series would go. Lots of close games, with LA having maybe a slight edge.
