I didn't find him to be as composed this season as he was last season. This season brought a lot of pressure on him. The centenial brought a lot of expectations, his junior career was full of wins, expectation from that carried over, his performance in the playoffs last year brought some pressure on him this year to rebound, although I don't fully blame him for losing to Philly last year. All that pressure, playing in the Habs 100th season where the coach got fired and the team struggled is a lot to handle for a 21 year old. I have faith he'll grow coming out of this, it's all part of his learing curve. He has the parts, hopefully we don't burn him before he develops. And I hope montreal doesn't chase him out of town.
I think too many fans try to compare him to Patrick Roy. Roy is not the mold to be used for NHL goalies, Price's laid back nature does not make him a bad goalie.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw it.A few days ago, I heard there was a slight uproar because Price had been on The Score, interviewed by "Cabbie" after game 1, and people were unhappy to see Price so relaxed and happy after losing such a big game.I found it interesting that JUST THAT kind of indifference, cool+calm+collected approach, ability to shake off bas losses was everyone's favourite thing about this guy last year and was the main reason why everyone talked about his ability to handle being the #1 in Montreal. Amazing how winning changes everything.this isnt meant as a slight on him, I just find it all interesting to see from afar.
It's REALLY hard to win with the fans in Montreal. They seem to change their tune oh so fast on you. One bad play, one bad game, and you get booed out of the building.I haven't paid much attention, but everyone seems to the think the Habs have trouble attracting free agents in July, and that's a big reason as to why.Price is going to be a great goalie. I've said this infinite times about Fleury, and his development. Kid's in his 1st full season in the NHL, really, he's going to be shaky at times, he's going to be inconsistent, that's just how it works with goalies. They don't just start in the NHL and go on to win forever. Look at Cam Ward, came out of nowhere with the playoff performance, and then had a year or two of sub par play (compared to the playoff run, anyways), but now look at him. He was among the best goalies over the 2nd half of the season, and hasn't missed a beat in the playoffs.Price has unreal skill, I've seen him in person now 3 times, and he's made an amazing save (or more) at every single game. His natural skill is unreal, and he is pretty collected, the rest will come in time, with experience.

Gainey made one HUGE mistake IMO.... I think keeping Price and trading Huet was a great move. But, I really thought he should have gone and gotten a veteran goaltender, like a Cujo, to help Price. Halak is 24. Price looks to me like a kid that needs to be sat down by a veteran and have life in the NHL explained to him, as WELL as how to handle the ups and downs of NHL goaltending, particularly playing behind a talented team that will take a lot of defensive nights off....

You know, I tend to agree with you. But, the 2 games I have seen live with him, he stunk. Doesn't mean much, only 2 games, just saying it left a bad impression on me personally. But the bigger factor is Mike Brophy. He has always thought Price wasnt quite as talented as people made him out to be, and I think Brophy has some concerns with his style. This is before all the issues over Price's "attitude" or whatever, and its really made me question how good Price is. Only because I generally respect Brophy's opinion on hockey. I dont think he's saying Price is not a good #1, but maybe not quite yet the top goalie everyone made him out to be, and maybe will never be a top 5/10 gtd. I believe that is his opinion, and I generally trust his views.(cue Gruven saying he knows jack shit)

Na, Arp, you're right too. I was saying he'd be inconsistent. He made great saves in the games I saw, but only stole one game, against Ottawa when they sucked. The last game, he made at least two diving saves on 2-1s, but let in a real soft goal against Letang to make it 3-1, and lost. It's all just the inconsistency brought on by his youth and inexperience, I'd assume. At the same time, maybe he has that early-Fleury-syndrome, and the only reason he makes these sick saves is because he's out of position? Who knows.

I'd have to agree with you on that. Well other than having Cujo on the team. A solid back up with significant NHL experience in a big market would certainly have helped. I have too wonder if they ever have Roy talk to him.

Roland Mealnson , the long time HAbs goalie coach who helped alot in developing Roy's style, was let go this month. This is probably a good thing for Price, now the Habs can find the right guy for Price.Free tickets for the draft will be given away by lottery if you fill out an application form on the habs site, I'll be trying to attend, it's not like I've gotten a job since I graduated :)Also remember the Jonathan roy incident, , well obviously. Now check out his new album :

Not true. Melanson joined the Habs in 1997.I think you are mistaking him with Francois Allaire, who just left the Ducks to join the Leafs.

oh snap, true, i knew that but got confused. I heard allaire wasn't staying in anaheim next season, good pick up by the leafs obv.TRADE REPORTRDS is reporting Gomez to Mtl for Chris Higgins.First impressions: I like it. I like higgins but he has disappointed and doesn't seem like he will reach his potential. Fast as all hell though, a change in scenery might help him, plus he closer to home now. Gomez had a slow season last year. He'll be our 1st line center until plekanecs smartens up, good for +/- 70 points. We desperately needed a top 2 center so this aleviates some pressure. I'm not sure what his salary is but it looks like 8M next season...

HF's report on Tom Pyatt, 17 on their depth chart of the NYR17. (N/A) Tom Pyatt, C Grade: 6.5C Team: AHL Hartford Wolf Pack Acquired: Fourth Round, 107th overall, 2005 NHL Entry Draft Age: 22 Pyatt was left off the Top 20 last fall because he had trouble adjusting to the professional level of play and spent most of the 2007-08 season as a member of the ECHL Charlotte Checkers. However, Pyatt has fought back and has spent the entire season playing for the Wolf Pack. Work ethic is Pyatt's biggest asset. He never gives up -- either on himself or the play. He has the skills to be offensively dangerous and is very responsible in his own end. He is good on face-offs, and through sheer determination has made his way up to a half point per game scoring pace. Realistically not expected to become a second line NHL player, one should not be surprised if he overcomes the odds. He make take longer than some other players to become successful in the NHL, but he is sure that he will make it and when Pyatt sets his mind on hockey, it's not wise to bet against him.and McDonnaugh, ranked 18th on their overall prospect ranking :(18. Ryan McDonagh, D – Montreal Canadiens McDonagh is the Canadiens top prospect. A first-round draft selection in 2007, McDonagh is a big, powerful blueliner who can provide an offensive punch. Expected to be more of a defensive blueliner when he turns pro, McDonagh is an excellent skater, with good positioning and gap control. The St. Paul, Minnesota native has good instincts and is developing more physical play. He recently completed his sophomore season at the University of Wisconsin, and competed in the 2009 U20 WJCs. Expected to become a first pairing blueliner over the next few years, McDonagh is weighing his options as to whether he will return to Wisconsin for his junior year.

Wow. Gainey never ceases to amaze me with his crappy moves. This is just awful. What's next? Koivu at 4.5 per year?Brian Burke must be the happiest person on earth next to Sather. Thanks to that joke of a trade, no matter what Burke does tommorow, he will get a free pass.

What makes the trade crappy? The way I see it we traded Higgins + McDonagh for Gomez. Higgins isn't a big loss to us, defensively I loved him, offensively we can easily fill his spot. McDonagh, as I said before, is agreat prospect, but we have so much depth their he was expendable.Gomez might be expensive, but he fills a big hole on our team, a top 2 center.

If you want to trade your #1 prospect because of your farm's depth, fine, but at least get a fair return. Habs are throwing in Higgins and one of their top prospects for the worst contract in the league. Even though Gomez is a good player, I just can't believe that his value on the market was that high. Sather should have been conceding. Instead, I feel that Gainey was raising the ante and not even getting the big center he has been coveting for years. Sather must be laughing his ass off. He got a good return and now has cap space to spend on a player that is worth it. Maybe I am biased here. I will admit that I am not a fan of Gainey's overall tenure in Mtl so far. Anyhow, I agree with you, this is just the beginning. Let's see the overall product before over analyzing. But it sure doesn't look good.
I blame Turco.
