As An American, Are You Ashamed Of People Like This.

Recommended Posts

This is a video by a British car journalist whilst in Las Vegas. He asked a few people about what Americans know about Europe seeing as they were releasing a new car to us Europeans. Now, let me state this.... I've been to America around 20 times, and I found Americans to be very friendly, very courteous, very likable people. I would happily go to LV eavery year for the rest of my life. I'm just curious at to whether this makes you cringe when you see it.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0Ocleo3YWg

I mean, talking to drunk people on the Vegas strip at midnight doesn't really signify anything. Remember, they also cut out anything that would be construed as a 'correct' response.

I fully understand that...but one guy couldn't even name one single European country.

I guess I'm ashamed as a human being that people like that are able to gamble their life away, but hey the casinos gotta stay in business somehow.Anyways, its a TV show. Now I dont have any facts to prove this, but I'll bet they only showed the people who gave the worst possible answers and the people who got it right werent included in the final cut.

Of course only people who got it wrong would be shown.....but that doesn't detract from the fact that the questions weren't exactly on quantum physics. Capital of England....I don't know. Does this person live in a cave?Capital of France.... How naive do you have to be to not know the answer is Paris.Do you honestly not sit there and wonder how can someone not know the answer to both those questions?

No offense to the OP... I've always wanted to go to Europe, I'm actually going to Greece next week (my first time out of the country)..... but why should us Americans give a s_hit about Europe, let alone the capitals? I don't know the capitals of Scotland or Italy, or whatever that guy was asking. I probably can't even name the capitals of each state in the United States. This doesn't make me cringe at Americans, it makes me cringe at how some Europeans (like the host) are such a_ssholes.(edit) He actually asks what countries are next to Scotland? Um ok I must be a complete retard if I don't know what's next to Scotland. This video makes me want to find the host and kick the s_hit out of him.

Actually I'm not surprised. And I also wouldnt be surprised at the people in Europe who dont know capital of the USA or other countries located over here. Seriously, stupidity knows no boundaries.

Why should you give a s*it. I think this is why we differ. Never once have I ever thought 'Why should I give a sh*t'.To me, understanding and trying to appreciate what is happening on the rest of the globe is important. Last Friday we had 'Comic Relief day'. This was all the top UK comedians doing sketches etc to try and raise money for people who are less fortunate than ourselves. At least 50% of the money will go to Africa. People out there are still dying through Malaria because they have no protection. A mosquito net and a jab cost less than $10. Ten dollars can save a live. The night raised around $100 million. Why should we give a ****......My whole point is that you need to start looking outside your own back yard. It's all very well when things are great. What if you lived in a country that was totally screwed?, would you appreciate the 'Why should we give a **** philosophy'? If someone doesn't even know the capital of England then how the hell can he know what is actually going on in the rest of the world.

Its not that I don't give a s_hit about the rest of the world... I don't give a s_hit about GEOGRAPHY!!!! The dude in the video is making fun of Americans for not knowing capitals and locations. What does charity have to do with geography? You think people are dying from Malaria because I don't know a country next to Scotland? The video is ridiculous and so is this thread. Now sir, name me the capital of every country in Africa please. What you don't know? That must mean you don't care about Africa and the whole AIDS movement? Those thoughtless Europeans."Comic Relief Day??????" Oh you guys are great over there. Us Americans never give to charity.

that is one of the most ludicrous things i've ever read. i don't even know which direction to go. not knowing the capital of a country means you don't care about helping people on the other side of the world?i don't know the capital of scotland, but i'm sure i know more about you than the plight of starving africans.then again, i'm sure the starving africans really appreciate that you gave $20 to see some top comedians. thanks again for your generosity of paying less than a ticket would cost.next time get your head out of your *** for long enough to stop preaching, grab your wallet, and maybe give DIRECTLY TO CHARITY.

How is the capital of state related to the capital of a country....jeez.
there are many US states (not vermont) that are both larger in population, and more important economically and for global finances than many european countries.

I do think Americans should know something about geography. How can we dominate and control the entire world if we dont even know what places we need to take over. Of course it really matter after we take it all over since we'll just rename everything to make sense to us, but in the meantime we really need to get a handle on this.

The video highlights general naivety, and your comment about 'why should we give a **** about Europe', well if you don't give a shi*t about your closest allie, then why would you give a shi*t about the rest of the world. I went to New Orleans last year, driving from Atlanta. I reckon there was at least a 5 mile stretch from the coast leading back inland that was still in a very poor state. The question that entered my head was 'How can the wealthiest nation on the planet go to sleep at night when this is still here?'The video as far as I can see is nothing to do with Geography but to do with the fact that people really need to look further than their own back yards to get a better understanding of life.
