HtotheNootch 0
Well if we'd stop sticking our nose in the Israeli-Palestinian thing and the middle east in general we could have avoided / will avoid a lot of future problems.

Wouldn't it be nice if he had a really fancy ballrooom and some decked out conference rooms to hold these meetings in. You know, like some really fancy rooms in a big white house. It could be built in some major metropolitan area that would be easily accessible by a major international airport.

Big plantation style columns. And a helipad on the lawn. And a rose garden for taking short breaks to smell the roses. And a stately address. Something like, oh I don't know, maybe 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue???

Well, they've got cattle.....and blowing dust.....and a gas station....and a diner that sells 2 eggs, bacon and toast for $1.99...and more cattle. What world leader wouldn't be impressed with that? NormanHaupt 0
I've serious issues with George Bush using his ranch in Crawford, Texas for offical American diplomacy business. We have a place for that, NSF Thurmont. It's only an hour away from the white house, its loaded with all the anemities, and it retains the rustic charm that American built. Each President gets to change Camp David to whatever they want- just like Air Force One. Instead, our redneck president decides to Texas, which, no offense, has only ONE historic presidental event; The JFK assassination in Dallas.I think its utterly insulting that when a foreign leader, ESPECIALLY involved in the middle east, comes over, we take them out back to Bubba's and show them a good time, When we should stick them in Washington, play hardball, and get this shit resolved. Before I die, I know I'll see nuclear war on the Gaza strip. I hope to hell it isn't my children paying for mistakes made today.
mk 11
The 'ranch' is a cornerstone of the Bush 43 public relations campaign. By showing him in jeans, clearing brush, raisin' & ropin' broncos and the like, they've been able to convince a good percentage of the country that he's a folksy, down-to-earth, average American. Nevermind the fact that he comes from a wealthy New England family, and if left to his own faculties (i.e. no family wealth, power, or connections) would almost certainly be poor white trash. It seems the rest of the world has less trouble sifting through the P.R. than a lot of Americans do. I must give him credit in the one arena he has been successful, however. The guy is a monster politician. A miserable president, but a monster politician. He's never lost an election.

Baylor05 0
As a resident of Waco, which is right next door to Crawford, I know exactly why Bush uses his ranch for foreign dignitaries. It's secluded. It's a lot easier to manage protests and control crowds in rural Crawrod than it is in urban Washington. The secret service has a wide open view of the landscape and there are no places terrorists could hide or car bomb. When Bush held his North American Economic Summitt at Baylor, recently, I heard stories of students being tackled by agents for unknowingly crossing safety lines to get to class, sharpshooters on the buildings, and I couldn't get out of my tennis class because the road the courts are located near was being used for the Presidential convoy, which used our intramurals field to fly Bush in and out of the campus.By the way, the President uses a technical college airfield when he flies into Waco. Raytheon has a plant there. It's not as backwoods as you think.Besides, everything's bigger and better in Texas, partner. Now get along little doggies. Yeehaw!

There's no reason NOT to use Camp David, instead of spending thousands in tax payer dollars to make the Bush Dude Ranch a "kicking" place.
Baylor05 0
First of all, the Bush family is indepedently wealthy. So I have serious doubts taxpayers money is going towards the Crawford ranch.Secondly, I honestly think some dignitaries find it a breath of fresh air to go someplace that isn't New York or Washington. There's nothing wrong with Texas. We have big metropolitan cities just like the rest of the country, and why is grass so wrong to you urbanities. I grew up in a city of more than 200,000 people north of Dallas. Plano has approximately 15,000 high school students in three senior high schools, which hold 11th and 12th grade students only. I'm sorry about this rant, but I get sick of Northern yuppies thinking Texas is nothing but Cowboys and rednecks, even though Bush does embrace the Cowboy lifestyle. Just realize we're not all like that.I really don't see the big deal of inviting foreign leaders to Texas instead of Camp David or somewhere else. If anything, what foreign terrorist is going to bomb Waco. We have our own terrorists (Branch Davidians, who still exist) and they keep to themselves, as long as ATF doesn't burn their compound. Thank you Janet Reno.

After all, it's like a whole other country. I think the issue was that perhaps there are more dignified ways and places to conduct the business of the country than setting up 2 podiums in the middle of a cow pasture. HtotheNootch 0
Actually, the ranch was built with money from his heavy hitter campaign donor types, so he could create that image.I don't feel like digging right now so google it.
