Quick question for you folks. Some poker rooms that I play in are much colder than others. I am not talking cold as in the play, I am talking honest to goodness cold air. Now, I know that is to keep people awake and gambling, but I am talking freezing here. The problem is, when I get cold I tend to shiver, much the same as when you get an adrenaline rush. To top that off, when I do get the adrenaline on top of it, I sometimes kick into full blown shakes almost, and it looks like I am very nervous, when I am not. Now, I have thought how this can play in my favor, and against me. Honestly, I hate wearing sweats or hoodies etc, or lord forbid even jackets. That is just too much bulk for me. I always try to wear long sleeve shirts with T-shirts underneath as well, but sometimes, that just does not cut it. I have tried getting up and walking away for a bit but that does not help much either. I can not drink loads of coffee, as I do not want to spend a bunch of time running to the restroom either. As it is, being that cold makes me need to go bad enough as it is.

Does anyone else run into this? If so, what do you do? It really happens to me in one casino primarily, but it has happened a few other times. The one time I broke down and bought a sweat shirt, and felt like a dork, as it had the casino's logo plastered across it, but I warmed up pretty quick.

I get the shakes more when I smoke and I am cold. Maybe you should stop smoking so much reefer you damn hippy. Or put on a more heavy shirt.

Casinos do keep it cold, I think it is just to keep people awake.

Machman,

please ignore NavyButtons. I don't think he even plays poker
Some people on this forum spend all their time dissing the new posters and wonder why we run them off.

Just wave, or snap your fingers, and ask the floorman to kick the heat up a notch. It's all done by computers these days.
If he balks, let him know you'll take your $3-6 game elsewhere, and your nickel-slot-bored-while-you-get-your-game-on-playing wife will no longer patronize the establishment either.

hope this helps.

welcome.

Thanks for your input. I had thought about asking them to turn up the heat, but figured they would just the computerized programing of the system to say no. I am in the Phoenix area, and it is not uncommon for most places to have places freezing indoors, even when it is blazing hot outside. Seems odd carrying around a jacket even in the summer, just so you will not freeze when you go indoors. It is tough to adjust to, and I have only been here about 10 months.

Funny you should add that about the wfie tho....did you meet my fiance? LOL I have put off marrying her for nearly 10 years now, so I can not complain when she goes along and chucks money at the machines with little hope of getting any of it back.

i don't think i ever "diss" new posters. but i also tell my girlfriend how good in bed i am. smile.gif really good.

but speaking of me (my favorite topic) i think i'm going to be visiting the LHE section a lot more. i'm looking to become a mid-limit prop (15-30, 20-40) and my LHE game is total caca right now.

example: the other night in an 8-16 game:
MP1 raises, all fold, hero calls in BB w/ 89.
flop: 6710 hero checks MP1 bets, hero calls
turn: 9 hero checks, MP1 checks
river 3 hero bets, MP1 calls

i nearly cried myself to sleep that night (solely from this hand) and directly after the hand in question i moved to an O8 table (where i got 1/6th in a $600 pot in the first hand).

get ready for some serious high level thinking over there.

actuary, please tell me you can save enough to get to the WSOP for a few events.

Indeed. That cold air was kicking my butt pretty bad. I will try sitting closer to the big screen next time, maybe some of that mythical TV radiation will keep me warm.

Fair reply actually. It can sound like a silly question. I was just wondering if people got their heart rate up before the sat down, like parking far out in the lot and walking in faster than a stroll, or eating certain foods that warmed them up. IE: at the casinos I play, I see a LOT of folks eating asian foods, but I thought it was just because they employ a lot of asians in the kitchen. Heck, maybe they are just eating the spicey stuff to stay warm.

That sort of thing.

i'm glad you see my reply that way.

my heart rate used to skyrocket and my hands used to have the tremors. i used to bite my fingernails uncontrollably on the way there and listen to my favorite cd just to focus.

now on the way there i listen to opera and fart a lot, and when i'm there all i can do is picture the cocktail waitresses sitting on my face.

goodluck. smile.gif

For you to involuntarily shake is not exactly dependent on the temp in the room. However, it may factor in. If you eat a very low glycemic, high protein meal it will help you. Also, why not order tea? Get the hot tea. It builds character. Also, you could say something like, "I'm about to tea bag you with my nuts."

Words to live by.

I get cold alot too which doesnt happen to me when im doing other things. I mostly have this problem at home... I think its when Im playing a bunch of tables and get into it. I wear a hoodie, flanel pants, a pair of socks and some slippers. If i had a robe you could call me "the dude". Casinos dont bother me though, i dont think i get as excited playing live with 37 hands an hour. I know it sounds weird but i think caesars has the best temperature control, its always very pleasant in there.

Nutrition is key...make sure you're taking a multivitamin and getting enough protein. This might be kind of specific, but get your thyroid checked. Have you noticed any swelling around your neck, paleness, and puffiness around your eyes lately? Every time I see a player with the start of a euthyroid goiter, I wince, because I know hypothyroidism is a real B*TCH. Mood swings, weight gain, depression, the works. If nothing else, get some $3 kelp tablets and a box of Feosol iron tabs at any drugstore and lay off the booze for awhile.

SYMPTOMS OF HYPOTHYROIDISM

Early symptoms:

* Weakness
* Fatigue
* Cold intolerance
* Constipation
* Weight gain (unintentional)
* Depression
* Joint or muscle pain
* Thin, brittle fingernails
* Thin and brittle hair
* Paleness

Late symptoms:

* Slow speech
* Dry flaky skin
* Thickening of the skin
* Puffy face, hands and feet
* Decreased taste and smell
* Thinning of eyebrows
* Hoarseness

Good luck!
