best "staredown eyes" in poker?

Recommended Posts

In the 'John Juanda' profile Daniel put up not too long ago there was a discussion about whether it was more intimidating to be stared down by Juanda or Ivey. Daniel took the side of Juanda, while many other posts with Ivey. Here are two pictures, was curious to see the results...20050406-61-006.jpg20050331-110-032.jpg

It's probably a tossup, but in another thread Daniel made a good argument for JuandaIvey is more of a quiet intensity, while Juanda is simply fiercer looking (lol)

Ivey would be scary. But Juanda I think would really make me wonder if I really wanted to do what I thought I wanted to do.
That's a perfect description of Juanda's stare. I'd be afraid to bluff him because his staredown really makes it look like he can read everything you are thinking.

I am aware that it will not be a popular choice on this forum, but I would choose Howard Lederer over both these guys.TheGrincherer.thumb.png
That's an awesome picture :club:

Juanda's stare is just sick, Its much more intimidating than Iveys.Phil's stare is just an icy glare that looks cool but just doesnt do anything for meAnd the poster that said Howard's stare is even worse almost hit that one perfect....watch some clips from the 2003 WSOP for that one

I'm gonna have to write in a vote here and go with Carlos Mortensen. Watching him on TV made me want to deal myself a hand and then fold it. Don't get me wrong, Juanda and Ivey would scare the bejeezus out of me too, but Carlos just looks more crazy when he stares.

I agree with Juanda and Ivey being more intimidating, but I would feel really uncomfortable with lederer's stare. Juanda and Phil stare at you really intense, but Howard just rests his head in his hand and looks at you. It's like Juanda and Phil are really trying to intimidate you but Howard is actually reading you and it makes you afraid to move at all.

Remember, Juanda started playing cards in America before he learned English. What an absolutely fantastic way to learn to read people. His handicap of not knowing the language made him rely entirely on external signals, and I would wager that he is the absolute best at extracting information from a stare down.

I agree that Howard's stare is more intimidating especially when you consider his size as compared with JJ and Ivey. Does anyone remember the guy hiding in his hood when Howard was trying to decide whether to call a raise or not?
