Geez, those terrible capitalists normally discount and sell that fruit before they throw it out. I am totally blown away by your example and logic. And what does the right wing have to do with anything???? Kind of random wouldn’t you say????DUMB AND REDICULOUS!!!!NEWSFLASH Americans are probably the most giving people on this EARTH!
How much garbage does your household produce per week? How much of that do you recycle? How much of that which you don't recycle could be recycled? And no they don't discount the fruit and vegetables in Washington state which is where I did this. Here in Montana they're a bit better though they give the produce to the local pig farmers instead of to families in need but I guess pig farmers need to eat too. Tell me, who on earth wastes more resources than the U.S. of A. Oh and production has little to do with wastage. Wastage is poor stewardship of our natural resources which despite what you may think are finite. And the U.S. has been poor stewards in that regard. You might still want to turn a blind eye and go "Rah Rah USA!". But it doesn't change the facts. And it doesn't change the fact that we are busy spending money that our grandchildren will have to pay for. Don't you have the least bit of conscience in that regard? If you don't then you're the prime example of the Ugly American and why unbridled capitalism isn't to be trusted.

from an engineering perspective, usually being more efficient and less wasteful saves money. So in many cases retrofitting industries and processes to reduce polluting emmissions can be ecconomically sound and be better for the environment. It would require an initial investment, but it could be economically sound. This concept is important. Economy and ecology can work together. Don't go yell about how the US is the best country in the world and you don't want to change your ways because you're the best. You can actually line your wallets while improving the environment you live in. Imagine that, a WIN WIN situation that is a green solution.

Hmm so you're an "Our country, right or wrong" type guy huh? Pollyanna all over. I don't hate our country, in fact I care a great deal about it. But I also care about the kind of world my grandchildren will inherit as well. Obviously you don't have kids or you'd have some concerns as well. And loving blindly isn't loving, it's obsession. Truely loving your country means that you love it with your eyes wide open to it's faults as well as it's virtues. And unlike a spouse, you can actually work to change it's faults. That's the beauty of this country is that you can have these debates and you can express your views of the problems this country has. And you can do it without getting your head chopped off. But the first step toward totalitarianism is muzzling free speech and opposing points of view. You can call me delusional all you want but if you think this country is perfect then it's you who's delusional.

Yeah I saw you too :club:. I'm not too sure about that Sep deal. I'll be in Australia (yes I'm going to pay for carbon offsets for the flight) playing in the international cup of Australian Rules Football 'til Sep 10 and then I'll have to go back to work. Taking a train to Prague would be a 24-36 hour trip I reckon, that's a little too far for a dinner. no bad feelings I hope :D*Edit*I just had to add this after seeing your Tiger Woods videos. I know what it takes to be a Tiger.
Well since I am in the balloon business, and balloon come from the rain forest rubber tree. and the rise in latex has caused 3rd world countries to replant these rain forest trees, I can currently fly around in a 57 Desota with a bad muffler, dropping buring plastic out my window while I smoke tires and would still have a few extra carbon credits if you need them.We are taking the train to either Berlin or Vienna, maybe Strasburg. Does that help?

That's an interesting point. Comparing Sweden and the US we give about an equal amount of our GDP (government plus private), I'll admit that I think the US are "better" but only by 0.5% of GDP at most. So, how come, we, as in Sweden, can give about as much as you as a percentage of our GDP but waste significantly less while having higher standards of living and at the same time reduced our pollutions to less than our 1990 levels? Are we miracle workers? Oh I forgot, we have a majority of atheist and agnostics so we don't believe in miracles. We "just do it" :POh and as a rebuttal to your excellent "we as a society don't care thank God". The next Presidential election is between John McCain and Obama/Hillary. All three of them have stated that they will prioritize the fight against global warming. So, whoever wins, you as a society might not care (I doubt that anyways, everyone in the US aren't as naive as you) but your President will :club:
Watch what happens to the social experiments of northern Europe whe the US has to cut back on our military exposure to pay for these wonderful world saving techniques. I wonder how many people will be able to choose global warming prevention techniques to free healthcare?Yes I am saying that if the US begins doing those things that require us to change the amount of money we currently spend on the military, other countries that have benefitted by the US military presence in the world, will have to ramp up their own defenses, which will cost them more money than they can, and since they are already taxed to the point of poverty, the only solution will be cutting back the most expensive social programs ie healthcare.YES I just said less US military equals no free healthcare in Europe.
