Okay, hockey fans... I just got this new device hooked up to my tv/pvr combo. It broadcasts broadband, and I can watch on my laptop anywhere I go ANYTHING on my tv OR my PVR!!!!! I was watching NHL centre ice in a restaurant tonight..... If you're a hockey fan, this is absolutely positively the greatest thing since Serge's first appearance in a Leaf Porn Video..
Daniel, this thing is MADE for you on the road to sweat your games or watch all the reality you TIVO. Give me a call if you want one and I'll get the company to send you one...

So do you have to already order HD and all this stuff to actually get it on your computer?

This Slingbox is seriously one of the coolest tech gadgets I've seen come out in a while icon_clap.gif

If the Ottawa Senators win the Cup:

- I will donate $200 to the Daniel Alfredsson clown academy
- I will not watch hockey for a a period of 12 months
- I will wear a Senators jersey and say I am a Senators fan while walking up and down Yonge Street
- I will praise the city of Ottawa and their fine hockey team for a period of 1 year
- I will acknowledge that hell has finally frozen over
- I will cancel LeafsTV and NHL Centre Ice Package
- I will also give my fantasy team for a total of one year to an associate

Ok let me understand this.

If I bought one of these things and hooked it up to my parents house in Pittsburgh, I'd be able to watch all their channels here in Virginia on my computer or laptop?

$300 sounds like a lot of money but it's a lot cheaper in the long run than buying the NFL Ticket/NHL Center Ice/MLB Extra Innings.

BTW it's cheaper on Amazon.com

I'd be just interested in the lower model which costs $150 on Amazon, even the most expensive model is $215.

Now I just have to research what I need to set it up this weekend. It will be awesome if I can watch my Penguins now in Virginia or even on my trip to Europe next month.

I love being an impulse buyer. I just bought it at best buy for $150. I'm going to Pittburgh this weekend so I hope to be watching the Pen here in Virginia by next week.

Ah, you got the basic unit. I think you'll quite like it, I love mine. It's the ****.... I have NHL centre ice, and next week in South Beach I wont miss a game. If you spend any time at all on the road, there's nothihg better. And they have some new technology coming out that's even cooler. You're watching a game on your Slingbox, you see a great goal... you can rewind the play, bookmark it, and send the clip of the goal out as a link....

That's awesome.

Ya I got the basic unit because we just have basic cable at home (no digital cable or HD or anything like that). Since I live in Virginia now and NHL CentER isn't available yet. All I really need is Fox Sports Pittsburgh but having the local NBC/CBS/FOX/ABC will be nice too. What kinda connection do you have where you hooked it up and how's the picture quality?

I just have a simple broadband cable connection. THe picture quality is actually pretty damn good, especially the HD channels. As well, I'm using something I think they call 'SlingLink'. Since my plasma and HD PVR (that's Canadian for TIVO) are in my tv room, and my wireless router is on the third floor, I plug this slinglink into my normal power outlet on the wall and another unit on the end where the router is, and it uses my household wiring to carry the signal to the wireless router. I think I may lose a little picture quality doing that, but it's still a damn good picture...

Just a question on how this thing works..

I can access my personal PVR and all the channels I have at home ANYWHERE in the world through an internet connection???

And lets say I am at Starbucks sitting down having a coffee and watching my personal PVR and my wife can be at home watching TV as well???Or not while Slingbox is active

Sounds like exactly what I need when I go visit the in laws in California.

Yes, anywhere in the world through your own laptop and any internet connection. If you have, for example, the Bell 9200 HD PVR, the slingbox actually creates an interactive picture of the exact remote you have at home, and you can operate your laptop screen as if you were sitting in front of your own tv. As for the watching it while someone else is at home, I dont know the answer to that. I've never tried. But if you have a 9200, you can watch the PVR on a different tv anyway, so I would imagine it's not any different...
