Went to Windsor casino for a little live poker last night, and this situation came up around 2 in the morning...What do you guys think??There were 4 or 5 tables of 1-2nl going at the time. and one table got down to six players. The floor man decided in his infinite wisdom that he was going to break up the 6-man table and have all of the other tables absorb one player from the broken table, forcing us to sit 11 handed! The tables are squeezed tight enough as it is at 10 handed, but to me, that was just insane.I cashed out and walked, rather than play 11 handed. What would you guys have done?

All the poker in Ontario in the charity casino days used to be 11 handed. I think that Blue Heron in Port Perry is still 11 handed games.

I've actually had that happen to me too. Not that uncommon live game, when their concerns are keeping the games going. Losing you would have been better than losing both games, in the cold hard reality. It's lame but *shrugs* the floor men have different priorities than players.

Instead of pulling that $hit, why not pull one guy from each of the full tables to make the other game at least 9 handed? Would seem to make more sense to me...Cheap fkers probably wanted to send the dealer home early.

It is better for the house to have more games going then less games, more rake. Filling the short game and having everyone play 9 handed would have been a better choice.

I would protest and offer to go play at the short handed table if anyone wanted to switch. 11 handed? wtf, you'd play like a hand an hour.Mark

Should've pissed on the table, then walked away, or at least make the daring bluff to do it.

Very interesting responses...Has anyone considered the NEED to close the table* and, rather than drawing for seats and having existing players go back on the list (which most players hate!), it was decided to play 11 handed? Just sayin' is all....*Tables sometimes NEED to closed; staffing levels, maintainance, dealer illness, etc.... Remember as well that poker tables generate very little profit. A casino is better off running 4 full tables rather than 8 tables 5-handed...make sense?

It has become clear to me that the pitbosses for the poker room at casino windsor have very limited knowledge of how you're supposed to run a poker room. With that said, I've learned most of the rules that I have come to find "standard" on this board, so I guess they weren't so lucky...They are morons, though. (sometimes they make the right call... sometimes.)

Especially considering Windsor rakes the 1-2 nl 10% up to $5 instead of a time charge like they used to....Would have made MORE $ with the other game left running and balanced with players from other tables.

Not really. If there are 8 tables going then you have to have 4 times as many dealers on the floor. And what if two of those tables break? If it made sense, casinos all over the country would spread heads up games.

im still not sold that many of these people that get these big online scores are winners when it comes to the live game, which, by the way, is real poker.

While it's quite possible for such a situation to arise, if it does arise it needs to be explained. If the floor walked over and said "Hey guys I had a couple dealers call in sick so I'm not able to keep that short handed table open. We can either play 11 handed or I'm going to have to put some people back on the list" I think he'd get a different response than if he said "We're breaking the short handed table and you're going to have to play 11 handed".I'm sure the floor is also aware of traffic patterns and I suspect those would suggest that they wouldn't be getting many new players anytime soon. So if they re-balanced to 9 man tables there's a good chance they'd be losing some soon anyway and have to re-balance again. And I'd bet that some players faced with a "We need you to move to that other table" would decide to end their session right there too.Of course none of that excuses the fact that 11-handed play sucks donkey balls. If you're anywhere near the end of your session I'd get up too. Even like "I'll play for another hour or so" near to the end of your session.

On your average table you'll probably see about 30 hands an hour. Figuring the casinos average rake to be about $4 they are making $120 an hour from each open table. The dealer would be lucky to make $20 per hour, so the casino is still making about $100 per table, per hour.4 tables = $400 per hour.8 tables = $800 per hour. How exactly is the casino better off running 4 full tables as opposed to 8 short handed tables?
