Official Toronto Maple Leafs Thread

Recommended Posts

Tonight the Leafs take on the New York Islanders in a big eastern conference matchup. Despite all the negative reports on the Leafs, of all the teams fighting for a spot the Leafs have done extremely well since the All Star break. Teams that have been dropping are the Habs, Canes and Rangers. The Leafs with a strong finish have a legitimate shot at the playoffs, and a possible shot at even as high as a 4th place seeding.Recent record against Isles suggest the Leafs will win this one...Leafs are 6-0-1 in the last 7 meetings against Isles. Have won 5 straight at home and are 15-3 in the last 18 matchups in Toronto.Leafs should bounce back after two solid performances against Nashville(where they kept it close against the best team in NHL) and the great comeback against the hot Penguins on Saturday.Leafs 5 Islanders 2

I hope so anyway, I just swapped DiPietro and recieved Raycroft and some prospects in my fantasy and this is the first game that both of them will be playing since. So this could make me look smart or like an idiot real quick.

I just spoke with Travis Green yesterday and he said the team will make the playoffs. So I guess it must be true then, why would he lie?
On a non-sarcastic note, DN, did you actually talk to Greenie? He just got a new phone number, so if you don't have it yet, let me know and I'll text it to you....

Yeah I have his new number... As I said on the other thread, if Nik Antropov is in the shootout for your team, you know that your forward depth is extremely weak. Wow, that's just bad.

Good news is, we still have the Raptors and they are playing great. A young team that's getting better fast. They are winning IN Chicago right now...
Yes and dont forget the Jays..Spring training starts soon....Back to the leafs...Played an amazing game just to be denied by Dipietro all night..All in all I am very happy with the way the team is playing right now...When you get 44 shots on goal and dont win the game, not much you can do..GO LEAFS GO

What a finish in the Raptors game. They were up 110-100 with 2 minutes to go. Bulls score 11 straight. then with seconds left Bosh hits two free throws to win it, woohoo!!!!
Chicago's teams are very disappointing right now. Let's go Chicago Rush!! :club:

NICE!! We could get back to those glory days, if Leaf fans would stop buying Maple Leaf bedsheets and car flags, and jerseys, and force MLSE to actually try to improve the product on the ice in order to gain revenue.. On a side note, I'm really looking forward to saturday night. I think it will be a great moment to hear a 10 minute ovation for Dave Keon. And I hope the Leafs have enough brains and class to surprise him by honouring his number...

I think this is great..Dave Keon was before my time , however i believe that maybe its the curse....Having Keon back in the LEAFS NATION might reverse the last 40 years of no Stanley down on Carlton and now the ACC. I truly believe that the new NHL has been pretty for the Leafs. The only reason I say this is that the extra money that they have they cant spend like in previous years.but anyways GO LEAFS GO

no, what was embarassing was when Kaberle was one of our top 3 shooters. That was ridiculous. Antropov is silly too, but Leafs management is somehow still convinced he is a future star, so can 't blame them.
Except... get players who can shoot better?
that was pretty funny

I hear this argument all the time, and frankly its pretty silly. The solution is for Leafs fans to stop supporting the team? No, although having some fans in the first few rows who aren't just suits on business would help. The solution is for the Leafs to get some competent management, with Maurice being a great start. With the salary cap and a good coaching staff, the Leafs should at least be competitive within a few years.

No, dude, it's really NOT silly. When your team is owned by a Mark Cuban or a Mike Illitch-owners who's philosophy is WIN at all costs- then it's silly. But when your team is owned by a corporation who is responsible for the bottom line, then the most important thing is how many corporate deals have been made, selling out your advertising for rink boards and programs, and developing your tv deal, then one of the lowest priorities is the performance of the team on the ice. As I've said several times before in this forum, I interviewed Ken Dryden when he was the president of the Leafs. He said that, THEORETICALLY SPEAKING, of course, the best financial scenario for a team is to always be in contention, make a couple rounds of playoffs, but never win the cup. I'm not blaming the fans. A fan is a fan is a fan, and Toronto has great fans. But if the bottom line started to drop because of the teams performance, then you can bet MLSE would spend whatever money it could whereever it could to make the product better, such as hire the best GM out there, have your team practice on good ice instead of crappy ice (causing THREE injuries to players thus far this season), and, like Lou Lamoriello, FIND ways to stretch the cap to make your team as good as possible......
