Gilmour's gotta be there. Gary Suter maybe? Roberts?
hmm...damn shame with Theo. He should've been a shoo-in but the ghosts caught up with him.

Gary Suter the cheapshot artist? No thanks.

what about Joe Nieuwendyk, for sure Dougie
With all due respect to Mike Vernon, I think that this number retiring is getting a little tiresome...Like the Habs wont have any numbers left soon....
Mike Vernon was a great player however to have a number retired the player should be exceptional...It should be a higher honour than even the Hall of fame..
Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux..Players of that calibre..not Vernon and Luc Robitaille..
Just my two cents

gilmour has no shot of having his jersey retired in calgary because of the way he left.
macinnis will be next, and fleury will be someday.
fleury easily got the loudest ovation of the former players who were there last night.

For once, serge is actually making sense.
It is getting a bit tiresome. Where do you draw the line?
I mean, someone like Robitaille should be a no brainer for the Kings, Vernon, I don't know too much about, but he would make sense.
People like Gilmour, I don't think so, Nieuwendyk? No way.
Just because someone spent a bunch of years on the team during some cup runs or playoff runs doesn't mean the numbers should be retired. Pens should retire 44 for Robbie Brown? He did score 49 goals one year. 25 for Stevens? Tocchet, etc... Not likely.

I actually agree with you, too, serge.... It should be reserved for the best of the best. And Vernon wasn't exactly a Hall Of Famer. I also don't like the fact that they've turned a 10 minute ceremony into an hour for everyone. Believe it or not, it's because the venues realized it gives them an extra hour to vend at the concession stands..... LOL

Please tell me you're not lumping Robitaille in with Vernon like Serge did though.

No chance. Robitaille is a future Hall of famer and deserves to have his jersey in the rafters..

vernon will, without a doubt, be in the hall of fame. 2 cups, a con smythe, 10th all time in wins, he is absolutely going to be in there. one of the reasons they retired his number, besides the many years and the stanley cup win, is that he grew up and played all of his minor hockey in calgary. he was the reason we won a cup and was the best goalie the franchise ever had up until this #34.
i do agree that the ceremony takes away from the game though. it was, without a doubt, the worst game i've been to all year. the first period shots were 4-1. it was brutal.

If I had a vote I wouldn't vote Vernon into the Hall.

that's fine. but he will be going in.
side note, just cause i know you're a habs fan. did you know vernon is the only goaltender with a winning record against roy over his career? thought that was interesting.

Ionly lumped them together because I actually dont think Robitaille should have his number retired...I think a VERY SELECT FEW that deserve this honour...In my lifetime I can only give this honour to two players...Gretzky and Lemieux...Thats just my criteria ...I may include Yzerman,Sakic and Bourque...But thats as far as I go
