BREAKING NEWS: Turner Broadcasting is expected to issue an apology for causing today's series of bomb scares throughout Boston. A statement emailed to the Globe from Turner Broadcasting said: "The 'packages' in question are magnetic lights that pose no danger. They are part of an outdoor marketing campaign in 10 cities in support of Adult Swim’s animated television show Aqua Teen Hunger Force. They have been in place for two to three weeks in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Austin, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. Parent company Turner Broadcasting is in contact with local and federal law enforcement on the exact locations of the billboards. We regret that they were mistakenly thought to pose any danger."Discuss.

The top news story on fox tonight: no, it's not the war. no, it's not government corruption. it's the aqua teens, check check it. 9 full minutes all about ATHF as the lead news story at the top of the hour. friggin brilliant!

I say that when the people of this great country can't make tiny pictures of Moononites all around major cities without them being suspected to be bombs, the terrorists have won.

I saw the bump at the beginning of their adultswim line up tonight where they explained and apologized for the incident. I did notice that they made sure to mention that it was a 3rd party martketing firm that did this, so they can say "If you want money for this stuff, bill them" when the city wants money.

Wow the guy who came up with this idea is pissing his pants right now. The friggin lead story on the national news? Also though he was arrested."Peter Berdovsky, 27, a freelance video artist from Arlington, Massachusetts, was facing charges of placing a hoax device in a way that results in panic, as well as one count of disorderly conduct, said Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley. The charge is a felony, she said." - cnnSomebody, probably not Peter, is gonna have to pay a LOT of money for this.

Honestly, if this is how our anti terrorism teams work, then I'm a bit afraid, and for several reasons:First of all, it's a BLOODY CARTOON LIGHT BRIGHT, YOU FU%*ING IDIOTS. It's a Moononite giving the finger. But no, I'm sure that all real terrorist bombs contain cartoon lights. It's like their calling card. You remember the London Bombings: they found glowing a glowing Bender. And the Madrid ones: they found the cast of Sealab 2021 made out of elbow macaroni.Secondly, okay, let's say these are bombs. There were several of them placed throughout the city, they'd in the wide open, and they glow in the dark. IT TOOK THEM SEVERAL BLOODY WEEKS TO ACTUALLY FIND THEM!!!!! Imagine how long it could take them to find a real bomb that, oh, I don't know, wasn't in fact a glowing CARTOON CHARACTER!!!I mean, honestly, did they do absolutely no research on this thing before blowing it up? Did they ask no one? Have they not heard of Google, or asking like 50% of the population, or what? Is this the way police actually conducts itself?I have heard several references to when Orsen Wells read War of the Worlds over the radio and many actually thought it was taking place. Though the connections make sense for sure, I blame the people listening to War of the Worlds a lot less, since that could actually sound somewhat scary. Is say that Boston owes the tax payers about a million dollars for the stupidity of the other day. They should divide it up, or maybe hold a lottery for just one person. That would be fun. Also, everybody at the police involved in this needs to be fired, or at least pay back the money and put it up for said lottery.I’d be really scared by the stupidity of people right now if this whole thing wasn’t so damn funny!

Exactly! Did they do even a cursory examination of the suspected bomb? They were probably in the middle of their Die Hard 3, Speed, Blown Away movie marathon (complete with boxes of doughnuts) and, all adrenalized from the movies, decided "Hey! Lets' blow some shit up, we've got the perfect excuse!"Here's what troubles me:These items were a marketing ploy. The object of marketing is to get your ad (suspected bomb in this case) seen by large volumes of people, the more people the better. Thus, they must be conspicuous. Terrorist bombs, on the other hand, are meant to cause destruction and wreak as much confusion and horror as possible, with even the casualty rate being secondary to terror. In order to maximize success, they should be detonated while the public are unaware of them. Thus, they should be hidden from plain sight. What kind of terrorist is going to attempt to draw attention toward their bomb? Not a very competent one to be sure. So if these were bombs, they were obviously placed by incompetent terrorists and it still took authorities weeks....what happens when they're dealing with crafty or even mildly competent terrorists? I guess nobody in the Boston PD, FD, or FBI has enough of a sense of humor to watch ATHF. Boston must be the un-funniest city in America....

My money is on the following:Fire Chief: Hey our budgets are getting overlooked, How can we up the next year's budget?Local Home Land Security guy: Hey our budgets are getting overlooked, How can we up the next year's budget?Police Captain: Hey our budgets are getting overlooked, How can we up the next year's budget?Mayor: Hey our budgets are getting overlooked, How can we up the next year's budget? All together: It's a bomb! Quick shut down the city. This is why we need a bigger piece of the terrorism budget. If we had more money maybe we could have stopped one of the 3 flights that originated here.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit....but I think the more obvious explanation is that after years of sowing paranoia and fear they bought into they're own press and reacted with no thought what so ever.related news storiesTwo held in Boston scare released“It’s almost too easy to be a terrorist these days,” said Jennifer Mason, 26. “You stick a box on a corner and you can shut down a city.”Young Bostonians think city over reactedIn the Seattle area, authorities thought the devices were “obviously not suspicious.”“In this day and age, whenever anything remotely suspicious shows up, people get concerned — and that’s good,” King County sheriff’s Sgt. John Urquhart said. “However, people don’t need to be concerned about this. These are cartoon characters giving the finger.”
