Lets say you go to McDonalds. It's pretty busy and you go and order your food. The guy serves it to you and you give him your money. The price of the meal is $11.70 and you give him a $10 bill and a $5 bill. He takes it off you. He wait for your change. He gets distracted and takes someone elses order. He then notices you haven't left the counter and says 'Are you ok?'. You say 'Yeah, I'm just waiting for my change'. He says 'oh, how much did you give me?'. You say 'fifteen dollars'. He then gives you $38.30. He obviosuly misheard you and though you said 'fifty' instead of 'fifteen'.What do you do?

A situation like this happened to me a few weeks ago.I was on delivery at the pizza place, and a get a run to go on. I go and it's a older woman (probably about 60) in a wheelchair. Her order came out to $21, and she hands me a twenty, 3 singles, and another twenty and says "Keep the change." Now technically, I did nothing wrong here, but it's relatively certain that she counted that second twenty as a single and thought she was giving me a $3 tip, when actually she gave me a $22 tip. I honestly didn't realize until I was back in my car, as I just glanced quickly at the money when she handed it to me. But yeah, I kept it. Everyone I've told this story to said I'm going to hell, but hey, if you can't count your own damned money that's your fault.

I would look down, not making eye contact and walk away.....but I'm an as.s.It definitely makes up for the amount of times they probably shorted you food in the drive-thru. I swear this happens to me 1 of 5 times.

wow, good to see that everyone is honest. This happend to me a few years ago in my pre - poker days. I kept the cash. But now, after playing poker for a while, I value the moral side of things more than the financial side of things, so nowadays, I would give the money back

There's a very good chance whoever gave you the incorrect change is gonna lose his job, or have to reimburse the company from his pocket. It's one thing stealing from a faceless corporation, but taking money from a pimply faced 16 year old trying to scrape together to cash to pay for college is ****ing evil and inexcusable

woah woah woah...there's two parts to that.is it wrong to take the cash? yeah, it's not what you're supposed to get and if you knowingly take the money that's your thing. but people do it and i don't think they are scum or anything.you're trying to make it seem like someone's stealing from the kid's pocket. the kid DID make a mistake. as a cashier you don't have a lot more responsibilities outside of accepting money and giving money. if you screw that up you kind've deserve to lose your job. that's life!

What a terrible, stupid attitude. "If you can't defend yourself from a knife-wielding thug, you deserve to lose your life, or at least a kidney. That's life!" The idea that people deserve to pay the maximum repurcussions for every mistake they make or weakness they have just because somebody can't be bothered to do the right thing is not just impractical, it's absurd. Just because you can't stop something from going wrong, does that mean you deserve that thing to go wrong? If I could kick your ass, does that mean you deserve for me to do so? The kid made a mistake, but whoever took and kept the money recognized it, realized what he was doing, and conciously took and kept money that didn't belong to him. That's just a half-step better than actively stealing from somebody in the first place, especially if you know the consequences (that the kid may get fired or have to pay the money back). I can understand that many people rationalize that keeping the money is fine because McDonald's will never miss it. It's more excusable than taking money from a kid. But most people know that's not how it works, and are too selfish and morally corrupt to care.
