Has anyone started playing online then made the transition to the cardroom/casino? What were the biggest obsticles? Any suggestions for someone who is about to start playing live?

A LOT SLOWER!!!! You will get bored sometimes, because some players will take forever to make their decisions and especially if your not in the hand, you may nod off to sleep. Smoking is probably the thing that bugs me most about playing cards, but thankfully some casino cardrooms don't allow smoking. I really hate coming home from a session and having my clothes smell like cigarette butts.Also, just be patient and don't go grab your pot if you win. Just wait for the dealer to push it towards you and to take your cards before you start gathering up your chips. Everything else is about the same, just play like how you normally would, except you may want to establish a table image, this will come with some practice and you'll get a better feel for how you should present yourself as you play live more.

Well, I live in Ireland and there's a new law here which has banned smoking from public areas, such as pubs, clubs and card clubs. So it's smoke free here

I play both, and as mentioned the pace is alot slower. Plus I play multiple tables online, so the action seems extremely slow to me. However I enjoy the physical aspect of the game, that is, looking for tells and observing etc.

MUCH slower! At first it may be a big challenge staying patient and not loosening up. Study your oponenents when not in the hand. Watch for tells, be aware of any that you may be revealing. Image is important. Start working on that poker face. GL!You will find the lowest limits in the cardrooms play extremely loose. This makes it all that much harder to stick to your starting hand requirements. Do not let them suck you in. There is much $ to be had for the patient player.

I really don't think you need a poker face to be successful, I mean I guess for some people they prefere that, but I think more so you get tells off of betting patterns rather than physical tells, although there are times physical tells help out, such as when a player can't wait to get money in the pot, betting over the limit amount that they're allowed typically means they hold rockets. Also, if you see a player stutter while talking, they're usually bluffing. If a player is quiet, shaking or seems very nervous, usually they have a monster hand. But sometimes I'll keep this in mind and use reverse psychology to trap my opponents. Table image is the most important in my opinion, it matters more how the other players perceive you then your actual playing style. I like to try several styles of play and change gears every once in a while from tight aggressive to a lil looser, it depends on my image at the time. If it appears as if I'm playing very tight, I'll loosen up a little and start raising from late position with marginal hands. If I've got a loose image, I'll start being more selective with the hands I play, do more check raising and betting out, since other players won't believe I have the goods since they've seen me bluff and play junk.
