hah, and yet it was stickied already...so in my eyes, it makes it official anyway. On another note, I've never watched an episode of Rome but I've heard good things. Is it really that good?

If you like any of HBO's other 1 hour drama's you should like it. It's not as much about the main characters you read about in history class as it is about two roman solders who become unlikely friends. The rest of the cast is there, but they provide an interesting backdrop and the political intrigue while the more human side of the story is shown through Pullo and Vorenus. The rise of Octavian after the death of Ceaser should be good though.

Can't say that this episode was inappropriately titled. The whole redemption or self destruction of Vorenus is quite the story. Octavian taking a stand vs Marc Antony and his mother was interesting too...Then of course, the teaser of Vorenus's children still being alive makes you wonder how they will factor into things in the future.

very much a setting-the-table episode for how things will unravel this season.Octavian vs. Antony... Does Antony use Cleopatra and his son in has battle vs. Octavian? Remember, Antony and Cleopatra is one of the great love stories of all time...I like vorenus as a bloodthirsty criminal.

One of the things I am slightly disappointed in is that Max Pirkus who plays Octavian is being replaced by Simon Woods once he comes back from the war. I understand why they are doing it, I just really like the job Pirkus did in the role.I also think there was a bit of interesting foreshadowing going in when Pullo tells Vorenus that he doesn't want to be around to see what happens when he pisses off the gods, considering his kids are alive seeing them die would be a harsh punishment.

1. Why are they changing actors?2. I see where this is going...he finds out his family is alive, gets back on the road of the good and righteous and ends up the hero... They won't go anywhere different, it'll just be a fun ride while it getst there.

Well the kids came back into play pretty fast, now Pullo can hopefully reconcile with Vorenus. Really looking forward to next weeks episode.
I thought the episode was very interesting. They've now set up the rest of the season with Octavian and Vorenus storylines...

  • 3 weeks later...

I think this weeks episode now ranks as my second favorite of the series. The only one I remember liking more is the first season when Vorenus saves Pullo in the arena fighting by slaughtering a bunch of gladiators and carrying his injured friend to safety.

What i love about this show is how quickly they move things along....from antony/octivian union to the defeat of brutus/cassius in greece...plus a great sex scene with Octavia....Now that's a great episode.

Well...one might consider that a suicide, attacking a couple thousand men with only a big sword and no armour.I think the writers were going too hard for the redemption thing, his bathing in the river a couple weeks back to be reborn and then this new courageous streak. A lot of literary licence, i think. The also turned Cicero from a whimpering pus.sy to a man who put the good of the republic before his own life.Things should be interesting next week, get back to the politics of running Rome...
