The Nhl Is Trying To Cheat Rory

Recommended Posts

Just cause 1000 people voted 1000 times each doesn't mean he should be an all star over a Scott Neidemier(sp???)He shouldn't haver more then 1000ish votes. They will change it to 1 vote per person next year.

Count me in the group of people who DO NOT want to see Rory Fitzpatrick at the All Star game.
why not? fans voted for him, isnt that the right of the fans if he wins?personally, id love to see him there. i wish fans could vote on the whole team, and i would vote on a whole bunch of players who dont get the spotlight.that, and i generally take the all-star game about as seriously as rodeo clown college.

Why not? I guess because I've always enjoyed watching the all star game ever since I was a kid, and I feel the best players in the league should represent the league. We vote in Rory Fitzpatrick this year, what happens next year? Are there write in votes for every position? Maybe the starting lineup is Shawn Bates, Donald Brashear, J.P. Vigier, Niclas Wallin and Cory Sarich. That'd be a blast to watch. I'd really enjoy it if I ponied up the dough to watch that live. Or even better, what if it's the one year out of 20 that the AS game actually comes to my city, and I pay $1000 for tickets to take my 8 year old son who has been dying to see Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, or guys we never see like Pavel Datsyuk, Rick Nash, Joe Thornton, etc. and we have to watch those bums.If I wanted to see Rory Fitzpatrick calibre players, I'd call my buddies and go have a pickup game at the local arena.

i kind of agree. i'd like to see Rory in if he gets voted in, but I think the campaign is stupid. It does not do what it purports to do, and is just a bunch of internet nerds and casual fans trying to do something funny.

Fans are stupid anyways. The only ones voting for the all stars in my opinion should be coaches, players, and sports writers. Fans usually only vote for the most popular players and not always the ones that are doing the best THAT year. Just my two cents though.

agreed!!!lets not paint the past fans votes as somehow educated, and all these votes for Rory as somehow uninformed dupes.

I'm not saying that fans should be totally in control of the voting, but I don't want to see fan voting get tossed, either. Maybe some kind of compromise. Yes - many fans are blindly stupid and will vote for their entire team's roster if they can. Thing is, fans are the people that this game caters to, so like it or not they should have a say in who and what they watch. Let them pick half the roster, maybe, and allow the sportswriters and players to pick the rest. Give the coaches limited veto powers to include only the deserving players.

How about we get rid of the all-star game altogether? I think Ace Bailey's medical expenses have been covered.Maybe we can do away with the "temporary" sales tax too.

From Wiki...The first All-Star Game in the NHL started in 1934 to benefit Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ace Bailey, who suffered from a career-ending injury. On December 12, 1933, near the end of the second period of a game between the Leafs and the Boston Bruins in the Boston Garden, Bailey was tripped from behind by Bruins defenceman Eddie Shore, in retaliation of a check by King Clancy. Bailey was not the intended target of the check; Shore wanted to hit Clancy instead. Bailey was badly hurt, unconscious and bleeding. Bailey's teammate Red Horner took offence to the hit, and subsequently knocked out Shore with a punch. Shore was forgiven after the game when both players regained consciousness, with Bailey saying that it was "all part of the game". However, Bailey would pass out and lapse into convulsions.Bailey was not expected to live after a single night in the hospital after suffering from severe hemorrhaging. If Bailey were to die, it was made well-known that Shore would have been charged with manslaughter. Fortunately, he gradually recovered, but his hockey career was over. For his actions, Shore would receive a 16-game suspension, a third of the 48-game schedule of the time, while Horner was suspended for the remainder of 1933.The game itself was proposed by Walter Gilhooley, the sports editor of the Journal in Montreal. This proposal would become a reality on January 24, 1934, in a meeting of the NHL's Board of Governors in 1934. On February 14, 1934, the NHL's first All-Star Game was held, during which Bailey's #6 uniform was retired by the Leafs. It was the first number to be retired in the NHL. The game saw the Leafs battle against an All-Star team made of players from the other seven teams, which the Leafs won 7-3. One of the more memorable moments before the game was when Bailey presented Shore with his All-Star jersey, showing to the public that Bailey had clearly forgiven him for his actions. Bailey also presented a trophy to NHL President Frank Calder before a game in the hope that the trophy would go to the winner of an annual All-Star Game for the benefit of injured players.

Sigh..... Monkey, I finally had to give up hope. My life plan was to make it to the NHL, then piss someone off enough to get whacked in the skull with a stick, causing my premature retirement from the league after only one game in the NHL, and forcing the leafs to hoist my jersey number to the rafters to hang next to Ace Bailey's..... BTW, Ace Bailey not to be confused with the NHL scout who was killed aboard one of the 911 flights that were hijacked..

It's wrong and makes a mockery of the selection process. The NHL decided to include the fans votes and this is what they do for kicks? I highly doubt Rory would even go if voted in, and if he accepted the invitation it would be a huge mistake on his part.

hey, I got it...................I believe the all-star game is now used to benefit the players pensions.I would be curious to see that if Fitzpatrick had have been voted in, if he would have done the classy thing and turned it down for a more deserving player.(although he may not be healthy enough to play anyway)
