I don't like it, especially against a passive villain. Especially if you have a read that he has no problem calling down with any piece of the board. You need to value bet these players all the time. What makes you think he doesn't just check behind on the turn?

With no read on how aggressive villain is just bet the turn. You say he like to call, let him call.
Yup. I take the line you took against good/aggressive opponents all the time, as this looks like a continuation bet that whiffed, and villians will often try to take it away or value bet/protect with any real hand. But this guy is a passive call-monger. So bet for value. Even if you got the C/R in, it's still a bad play.Wang

agreed with wang. i ONLY try this play if i'm likely to be playing against an opponent for awhile, he is paying attention, and he is a tricky, aggressive player, who i feel will cold-call me often.
I do this a lot in live games, much more so than online. It'll really stick in opponents minds when you raise preflop, lead the flop, and then check/raise the turn with a good (but not unbeatable) hand. (Obviously, it's much easier when playing live to remember specific plays an opponent has made.) I'll do this once early in a session, and then, every once in a while if I feel the need. It will get you free cards when you continuation bet w/o a hand OOP, get you slightly more action on your turn leads, and generally serve to keep opponents under control/playing passively.I still do it online against good observant players, or any player that I've seen bet when checked too or generally be aggressiev in position. At .25/.50 there are so few times image or whatever is going to allow you to set someone up for another .25 bb of equity that it's just a waste of time thinking about it. Even if the check raise works, some of the time he's going to call, then fold any river that doesn't give him two pair or better, making you 0 extra bets. Checking isn't even a thought, IMO. Just bet it.Of course I've been up for 44 hours, and I'm running on addies, fatty pills and Boo-Koo. So I'm not running at 100%

I think he was thinking about this purely from a value standpoint. Which still makes it just silly.Goodluck with your unique and creative way of ruining the holidays for your family. For me it's just going to be not buying them gifts.

I've bought (Edit: that sound terrible) nothing. Ask GK, 76clubs, et cetera. I've been proudly announcing this all week. I'm giving my sister a book she watched me read -- which I then spent the night bitching about how much I hated (by the way, Jonathan Safran Foer is the worst writer of all time)-- and everyone else gets nothing.
