O8 Noob Question

alright ive been playing O8 for a bit, but i dont really know true strategy, or much about how to play the gamebut i always see people chasing runner-runner lows and I was wondering whether it is right to do sofor me i find it stupid that they are chasing for half the pot, but sometimes i get donked by runner runner wheel....not a bad beat complaint, im just wondering when its right to chase it, if evermaybe people just get off on winning pots....

it's more often correct to chase running lows in LO8. it's usually incorrect in PLO8 unless the pot is like 8-way or something.as usual, it's mostly a mathematical issue. with counterfeit protection, you make a running low about 30% of the time. without it, about 20%. so based on the likely betting on the flop and turn, is it right to chase that 20 or 30% for half the pot? that varies from hand to hand, and on your ability to estimate the likely betting for future streets. but it's never "wrong" or "right" in any general sense.hell, once in hold em i called peeled a flop with 64d on a KQ5 flop with one diamond cuz the pot was nine way and was capped preflop. same thing.

whoa, whoa, whoa. checky is correct, but for someone who is new and just learning the game, this is probably poor advice. you are probably not giving up too much equity for folding runner-runner lows.

whoa, whoa, whoa. the simple answer is in plo8, don't do it, and in lo8, do it if five or more people are in the pot TILL THE TURN and if you can see a turn for one bet.

there you go.it goes w/o saying that you need to make sure you have the nut-low (c/f protection preferably), and that action wasn't too crazy preflop where you are likely to be drawing a 1/4.

When people win pots with rubbish, it will stick in your mind, but just try to keep in mind the hands when they call you on the flop and turn drawing dead. Online L08 is insanely easy to beat at the low levels simply by playing ABC poker, only playing good starting hands, only drawing to the nuts, etc.

OK, this isnt a bad beat story, just wondering if this was right on his parti had AKJT and the flop came KK2...i bet and someone called turn 5river 4and then i got raised on the river by A3is this standard?? because if it is, and im not doing it, i want to know so i can profit more :-)

It depends to some extent on what side-cards the villain had. For example, if he had a flush draw on the flop, it might be okay to call. Also if the pot was really big on the flop, he would have odds to chace the nut low with a hand like A345. But in answer to your question, no, calling this flop with A3 is definitely not standard.
