The Setup:Two table SnG. You've had pretty cold cards most of the night, but you've managed to stick around for the first 35 minutes (not playing very many hands - saw 5 flops from the first 30 hands.) Your down to T520, 11 players left.Your 5 minutes from the next level (75/150.) If you go through another round of blinds without catching anything, your down to T370 when the blinds go up.Which hand do you play and how?5d Js - SB - 4 Folds2d Jc - Button - 3 Folds4c Js - CO - 2 Folds6c 5c - MP - UTG Calls4d 5s - UTGI'll post the actual hands after a few replies.

5c6c....limp in or move in and hope for a lot of callers. By this time in the SNG you are in pretty bad shape ( what some refer to as POOP LAND...aka..swift-psycho) with those kind of blinds and 11 people left. I don't know what the other peoples stacks were and I'm assumming that it was down to 5 or 6 handed. This is the time to be moving in chips and praying everbody folds. What were the starting stacks?? how fast do the blinds move up??? Hopefully you get atleast two callers on your 56suited and you hit a miracle flop. but it doesn't look good for you...and poop land is looking closer and closer to being your new home. I would of maybe moved in with J2 off on the button depending on the stacks of the people in the blinds. If those people were playing tight and just trying to get to the final table... then move in, if one of them was the chip leader at the table..then I proabably wouldn't of moved in and waited for something better...like 5c6c...which isn't really that great but has the most possibilities...just my 2 cents

thanks...well it looks like you were on the button with the two other short stacks at the table when everybody folded to you when you had J2 offsuit on the button right??? If that is the situation then I would of moved in and prayed they didn't have anything. This buys you another round of blinds and another chance to get a better hand. You said that you had 5 min left at this level so i would of definitely moved in on the button to steal the blinds. Those two are looking at putting 50% of there stack in so they aren't going to call with marginal hands I would think...maybe they would if they were really loose. Its still a prayer move though...I just looked over the hands again and you had j 5 off also in the small blind against the big blind..that would of been a good time to move in also. Seems like that was two times you could of tried to steal the blinds since you weren't up against big stacks....once again..I could be reading this all wrong...either way you are still praying. hopefully your prayers were answered in whatever move you made

I push with the 6c 5c from MP - the J x hands are junk. Also, pushing from MP tends to give you a bit more respect as many players assume that that the further you are away from the BB, the better your hands are. They will tend to fold better hands as they will give you more respect.I would also push with 4d 5s UTG as I'd rather push with that than wait for the BB. A push from UTG has a better chance of isolating and giving you a better chance of winning the hand.

I guess I don't agree with the above poster...( politely disagreeing, just a difference of opinion )You aren't going to get any respect moving in with 45 unsuited UTG with your stack. You have huge stacks in front of you...one guy at about 5k and the other at around 3.5k so if they have anykind of a hand they are calling. You are in a horrible position anyway you look at it..I think all your moves are prayers that you have to hit. I"d rather be raising the short stacks 50% of there stack then the large stacks 10% to 30% of there stacks.even though the J2 and 5 are junk hands...I don't think its a bad move whether you move in here and hope you steal...or move in with the 56 suited and hope to get like 3 callers and hit. either way..its not looking good. another thing...you could just wait another round with just 370 and hope to pick up a really good hand...but its probably not best to do that. I like to make a stand.

you don't have to push all in...but if you must, push in from the small blind and/or from the button. it's not the strength of your cards you're playing in any of these situations - you're trying to steal some blinds to stay alive long enough to catch a real hand. and so, push in from the spot that gives you the best chance at stealing the blinds. only seat 5 and seat 8 can afford to make a loose call against you. if you get called, oh well, hope you hit.you could, of course, continue to be patient. let the others duke it out (and hopefully someone would get eliminated). this will do 3 things:1. allow you time to find a better hand to push with2. if someone gets eliminated the "better hand" category broadens3. if someone gets eliminated you move upi've been short-stacked countless times in these situations and in my experience, the wrong thing to do is decide that on this particular round i am going to push in. if you feel an opportunity has come up where you can steal a blind, then by all means steal away and do it with any two cards. otherwise, don't become so eager to push in that you do it with junk (again, unless you think you can steal the blinds).

Which hand do you play and how? 5d Js - SB - 4 Folds 2d Jc - Button - 3 Folds 4c Js - CO - 2 Folds 6c 5c - MP - UTG Calls 4d 5s - UTG
:club: Summary: I pasted hand histories with brief commentary below, but for those that want the quick and dirty, I went with the fourth hand (6c 5c - MP.) Going back over it in my head, and through the histories, I think the best place for me to make a move would have been hand two when I was on the button, and the other two short stacks where in the blinds.I really did feel like this was the round I had to do something. I'm not sure how you can or if you should avoid that. If I go through the blinds again I'm at T370. When I'm in MP, thats only three hands away. After that blinds jump to 75/150, at that point I'm six hands from being down to T145 (1BB.) That means from the first hand I posted above, I'm only 12 hands from having 1BB left. Even if I do pick up a good hand, with T370, this almost becomes a no-brainer call for the BB, potentially the SB, and the large stacks if they have a high card.Maybe I'm overthinking this a bit, but then thats why I opened it up for some discussion here :D If anyone is curious I did wind up winning the sit-n-go, but it was pretty strange. I was short stacked (down to 1-6x BB,) at least 3 times. And had at least one other memorable lucky moment where I was all-in with J3o and caught a J and a 3 on the flop (that held up.) :club: Hand 1: I folded in the SB. Had no confidence in 5d Js.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- :club: Hand 2: Big Blind is t100 (6 handed) converterHero (t520)SB (t1395)BB (t935)UTG (t4545)MP (t1495)CO (t3280)Preflop: Hero is Button with 2d, Jc. 4 folds, SB completes, BB checks. :club: I'm not going to call with 2Jo, so what about raising, or pushing all-in? An all-in could potentially push out both the SB and the BB since their stacks are not very big. In retrospect, this was probably the best place for me to make a move, and pick up T150 (not much but gives me another blind at least.)Flop: (t200) Jh, Jd, Ah (2 players)SB checks, BB bets t200, SB folds. :D Doh! Wonder what the blinds had...-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- :) Hand 3: Big Blind is t100 (6 handed) converterHero (t520)Button (t1295)SB (t1035)BB (t4545)UTG (t1495)MP (t3280)Preflop: Hero is CO with 4c, Js. 3 folds, BB checks.Flop: (t250) 2d, 7s, 2c (2 players)BB bets t300, Button folds.Final Pot: t550-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- :club: Hand 4: Big Blind is t100 (6 handed) converterHero (t520)CO (t1195)Button (t985)SB (t4695)BB (t1495)UTG (t3280)Preflop: Hero is MP with 6c, 5c. UTG calls t100, Hero raises to t500, UTG folds, Hero calls t20 (All-In). :club: Definately not a great hand, but one of the better ones I've seen. I only have one more hand before the blinds, so I raise it up. I am out of position, but don't feel like I have a lot of options.Flop: (t1570) 8c, 2h, 7h (2 players, 1 all-in) :club: Flop the open ended straight draw. I'm happy with this.Turn: (t1570) Kc (2 players, 1 all-in) :D Ouch (this gives the other guy a pair of kings,) but I still have around 15 outs.River: (t1570) 2c (2 players, 1 all-in) :) Bingo! BB was obviously upset, but he had to expect some of the short stacks making moves like this as the blinds continued to increase. Final Pot: t1570Results in white below: BB has Qs Ks (two pair, kings and twos). Hero has 6c 5c (flush, king high). Outcome: Hero wins t1190. BB wins t380. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- :) Hand 5: Big Blind is t100 (6 handed) converterHero (t1190)MP (t1195)CO (t985)Button (t4645)SB (t975)BB (t3180)Preflop: Hero is UTG with 4d, 5s. 1 fold, MP calls t100.Flop: (t750) 2c, 6h, Jc (3 players)MP checks, CO checks, Button checks.Turn: (t750) 6s (3 players)MP checks, CO checks, Button bets t500, MP folds, CO folds.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

i'm glad you won the sit n go....I guess your prayers were answered with your 56 suited...I bet when you folded that j2o suit on the button instead of pushing all in you were really kicking yourself :D anyways...it didn't matter..you won and are a lot richer now....good post
