Daniel Angry? I Can't See It?

Recommended Posts

For Daniel to get upset like he did he must have some justification. I mean of all the tapes and tournies has anyone ever seen this guy get mad? I'd love to gear a TILT story on DAniel if anyone has one?I must Admit I would have loved to see footage of him telling the Tournament Director off. It's like a referee trying to tell Gretzky or Jordan the rules of the game. Who do you think knows more? Anyway the point being is that they should not make tournies TURBO when players are investing 10 000 dollars. Even a Millionaire like Daniel feels cheated, then you know there is something wrong! Niagara Tourney was the best structure ever!

this part is not entirely true. the tournament guy and daniel were arguing over that specific tournament so they would know more than daniel.

1. The Niagara strucure was good, but there were some silly errors in it as well. 2. We were arguing over what is best for a poker tournament. When it comes to that, I know a lot more about it than any non-playing floorperson. To truly appreciate the game you need to be a top player. Seriously, if you don't know the game and haven't played on over 1000 live tournaments you aren't going to win a debate with me on what's best for the tournament.

i am kind of curious-how good was matt savage at dealing with tournaments? it seems like he would have known a lot and prevented these kinds of errors.

Let's say you've been playing 10 years of tourneys, that's about 100 a year? Wow.

The first statement is so unbelievably condescending i really hope I'm just misunderstanding it.. the second puts you at about, 1 a week for 20 years..you sure it's been 1000, let alone over 1k?

For once, I agree with DDID.

I questioned the Foxwoods TD earlier this year about the structure for their $1000 satellite to qualify for the main event. The levels were short (I think 20 minutes) and some of the levels were missing. My point was that it would take away a lot of the skill in the game. The TD's answer to me was that he wanted the average player to be able to qualify for the main event (by having to push all in and get lucky) when the levels go by quickly and the blinds increase quickly.

I think DN was very lucky that this post came up exatly on his 1,000th tournament so he could make this statement.Man if you want to nit pick on DN do it on the important stuff like politics. We all know what he meant here, you do not get FCP points for being anal about every little exagerated fact DN makes. He's played in more than 99.9% of the US population, give him some credit for having some knowledge here...sheesh. :club:

Hand for hand plays and other stuff that will get you out of concentration sucks big time. So DN's reaction is very understandable ... imo.But DN, when you spoke with the tourney director in private. Did you debate about the structure or anything like that ? What was his opinion about the structure ?

I've been playing live poker tournaments for 15 years, since I was 17 years old. I routinely played anywhere from 3 to 5 a week before I was 21. Not always big tournaments obviously, but a tournament is a tournament and I have most definitely played in over 1000 of them. Back in the late 90's I traveled year round playing in almost every event from LA, Vegas, AC, Tunica, and Foxwoods.

That's pretty much Foxwoods in a nutshell. A similiar structure was used for the Shootout event. They'd rather push poker players through a revolving door and try to get as many rake buy-in as possible rather than doing what's best for the player because they realize that poker in the long run doesn't make them a ton of money - it mostly provides traffic and notoriety. I don't argue that it's not good for business (because they hope the recreational average player does well, comes back, and spends $$$ at their casino at the pit games and such), but that statement from the TD in a whole is a big reason why Foxwoods irks me sometimes. As much as I dislike Harrah's and their financial bedship with Bill Frist, I kind of hope that they eventually get their West Warrick, R.I. deal done in the near future. Maybe competition will force Foxwoods' hand in doing what best for the players, not for themselves. Either way, I really applaud DN for standing up for the issue here, and as well as having the class to admit his mistake about complaining and not knowing the structure fully beforehand to the TD in private. Although the mere thought of having DN complain about the handling of a WPT event must have the Lawsuit Seven giggling.

First Foxwoods was/wasn't/is my home BM casino (I shifted to mohgen sun when they had a poker room but they closed it because there was not enough interest in poker to support 2 rooms in the North East.. ). there are many things I like about foxwoods and many many frustrating things. I always quote at the table that you have to convince yourself that it's the first day they've been open and have never seen/played/heard of/learned about poker before and everything is then fine. They make innovative rulings and if you don't like them ask another floor who will make a completely opposite and yet to your way of thinking wrong ruling. Or go back to the first floor 10 minutes later and he will give you a different ruling.I like a lot of the people and there are a lot that work VERY hard and very long hours during tourney time. They have tried to keep the events priced in for the moderate player. but they can't support 1000 person tourneys so they are forced to come up with ways to get more players through. Yes the shootouts are crap-shoots. I save my money from them and player in a bigger event. Some can do that and some can't but the days of multi-day tourny events with less than $500 buy-ins are pretty much over. It's much easier to justify doing this in a place like LA, Vegas, AC that have mulitiple poker rooms. You don't want to play a $1500 event then go down the block to another casino. Foxwoods can't do that. they are the only game in the area. The Act's and shoot-outs are an attempt to allow the 'little' guy a chance to get into a bigger tourney and make bigger money. But to do this they have had to speed things up. They decided to give more chips and take out some levels. Good or bad it was a decision and they posted ALL the structures long before they allowed reservations for hotel rooms. It would be great to get more play in the Acts. I think the spring changes will do that somewhat. Eliminating the heads-up play at the end of the Act's will turn the tables over sooner. Some like that some don't but it's a change.

You are my hero... I've dreamed of dropping everything and just going the way of poker, but the uncertainty factor is too much. My plan is to get a great paying job and then try to get more into poker and move up my stakes when I can afford the downswings more.

Hey DrawingDead.Come on. What reason would Daniel have to make a statement that you find to be so unbelievable ? I don't think he should have to prove anything to anyone, besides I think he's already done that. He's very good at what he does, makes a very good income doing it,and even as busy as he is still finds time to help others better there game and cares about his fans.

Wow, you are 32, almost as old as me. I thought you were only 27 for some reason. How did you play so many tourneys before you turned 21? Underground?

I think if Daniel really wanted to complain about tournament structures, he should start his own blog. That way, he can just vent, think outloud and talk about stuff in a place where it's considered acceptable to do so.He certainly shouldn't compalin about poker tournaments, discuss politics and religion, and discuss his golf game on a public web sit....hhmmm..Nevermind.And...he's clarified his discussions with the floorfolk, has apologized for where he felt he got out of line and he does seem to have a few live tournaments to back-up his comments. The best thing about my life...nobody cares what I say...

I can't believe that some people are debating with Daniel on whether or not he has played 1000 tournies? The man was making a point and that'a all! Also has anyone considered underground tournies, multible turbo tournies and charity events. Trust me he has played over 1000. I have been playing tournies for 4 years and I can say I have played over 200 for sure. Anyway I think we can all agree that Daniel knows more then the floor person, but the real question to ask is when is Daniel going to have his own Tournament. Strutured exactly how he wants it. I think that 250, 000 is a little steep. MAybe 100, 000 with his blind structure would be an awesome event. DAniel how is the Australian Event Structured. I am trying to qualify on line and was wondering about how it is run?
